Title: nothing to show for a good hunt
Post by: JDJP on December 15, 2010, 10:28:01 am
Took my two dogs for a walk last night.  After walking for over 2 miles the magic jumped one up. I had decided to keep spaz on a lead, since it gets so thick around the marshes with tall palmetto and vines.  So of course magic goes 600 yds and is bayed solid on the edge of a big marsh. We skirt the edge of the marsh, having to high step the whole way my legs were burning. Finally got to within 20 ft and got a look at the hog, and let spaz loose. The hog breaks and magic is on him. We start heading that way and spaz comes back. Magic ends up going .8  miles and bays again.

We got on this hog at 5 pm and didn't get out of the woods till 7:30. We ended up getting to within 300 use of magic an ran into a really deep swamp as the temp. Started droping into the 40s. Magic ended up quiting the hog and found us as we were walking away from the bay 500 yds back the way we came to get around the swamp. Magic got cut a couple times, but had that hog bayed for a good while.

Now from the stories I read here my dogs don't have enough bottom for most of you guys, but for the way  I am usually hunting, I feel good about the dogs I have. I know if I had spaz off lead it most likely would have been a caught hog, but I know he had a good chance of getting cut down.

All in all a good night for my dogs, and some excersize for me
