Title: Found the perfect jacket for hog hunting
Post by: firemedic on January 06, 2011, 10:03:15 am
I found this jacket at Sportsman's Guide last year and bought one.....used it all season and it's tough as they come. Has a ton of pockets, no insulation and the sleeves zip off and have a place to put them out of the way. Though y'all might like to try one....they're cheap too.....'bout $35 bucks and worth every penny. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=575697

That is a nice coat sportsman and neat to have a pocket for the Garmin,....but I'm afraid the Garmin wouldn't stay in that little pocket for me,....if it's not in a deep, covered pocket that will snap or velcro shut, I'll lose it. The country we hunt around here and in GA is so thick and wooly that stuff falls out of a small pocket before long.

Cullbuck....my buddy wondered the same thing, he likes a hood, I don't though...it seems to just fill up with leaf litter and pine needles with me.

Don't reckon it comes in camo djhogdogger.....that would be nice if it did though.

Nice coats but I like one with a hood on it.
the NiteLite jacket comes with a removable hood, its pretty nice has a drawstring and a part that covers the bottom of your face for cold cold weather

Looks like a real good one. A draw string around the waist to trap the heat would be nice and a removable hood/camo.

I really like the design though.. I might have to get one.

Thanks for sharing

the garmin fits snug in the pocket and the snap above clips around the antenna, then the end of the lanyard clip a caribiner to the loop on the jacket, its not as stout as a carhart

I have been looking for something like that, i have a ton of coats at the house, and dont like none of them,  they either dont have enough pockets, or will sweat you to DEATH, if you are walking/running, and once your soaked you will freeze to death.

I have considered the nitelite jacket/coat i think wick outdoor, makes one too, i was just wondering if they would burn you up?  i also prefer a hood.  but i like the looks of the one you got firemedic,  gots to have them pockets ;)  how is it while running or walking?

Yes countryman,....it can withstand any briar patches that you care to penetrate....it's as tough as nails. Where we hunt in GA has the worst saw briars I've ever seen.......the vine on some of 'em will be as big as a man's finger, they will shred your clothes, but this coat has held up great for me.

Sorry I didn't see that sportsman,....may be a better coat than I first thought. Thanks for letting me in on that. I'd hate to lose my radio or my Garmin.

Well tnhillbilly, it doesn't burn me up while running or walking fast. It has no insulation in it, but it does have a slick lining in the sleeves and a mesh lining in the coat part. I usually zip the sleeves off and make a vest out of it after it warms up later in the day. It has a big pocket inside the coat at the bottom that goes all the way across the coat where you can put the sleeves after you take them off. I keep my Garmin long range antenna in there too. It also has a small pocket inside the coat about chest level that your cell phone can fit in that has a velcro closure on it. It's not a perfect coat for a hog hunter, but it's dang close.
