Title: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: Bump on January 28, 2011, 12:11:50 am I was in the mood for sushi. The chef at the sushi bar I frequent has been wanting a "wild boar". Called Luke and Clayton to come down from Tarleton. I loaded my three jagds and two catch dogs. Cut the dogs out and they rolled out bout 1000 yards before I watched them start working back up a draw on the Garmin topo. Few mins later they were bayed then caught out.
(http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af79/rexbumpus/IMAG0305.jpg) Pulled up a ways and kicked them out again. They made a 600-700 hundred yard loop, came in and I sent them ahead again. They opened looking at a hog...ran a few hundred yards and caught out on this little bo. (http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af79/rexbumpus/IMAG0307.jpg) (http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af79/rexbumpus/IMAG0310.jpg) Clayton and Luke (http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af79/rexbumpus/IMAG0315.jpg) The younguns were wanting to go out and I was happy with two hogs in an hour. I gutted the sow, called the sushi restaurant and headed that way. Did me a little bartering and traded for several dinners. ;D (http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af79/rexbumpus/IMAG0317.jpg) (http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af79/rexbumpus/IMAG0320.jpg) Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: lawson-dawg on January 28, 2011, 01:29:09 am thats one hell of a hookup you got there! i wonder if that tactic would work at my favorite sushi-bar :-\
How random!! Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: geronimo on January 28, 2011, 05:19:25 am man you done got the hook up. i got to drive 30 miles one way to find sushi. if i could find a hook up like that i think i would be killing alot more than i would be turning loose, i think you done started something here....
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: catchrcall on January 28, 2011, 05:50:26 am You should have kept the hog and left that bait alone, or traded better at least. If you gotta go through the trouble of gutting a hog he should at least have to cook the food. It's only fair. I think you got screwed. :D
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: Cull Buck on January 28, 2011, 07:00:27 am Dang man, I'm trading hogs for tamales and you are getting sushi. Please teach young grasshopper the ways of the back alley asian barter. ;)
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on January 28, 2011, 07:13:48 am The terrain where you caught the red hog looks like an ankle breaker to say the least. You run through that mess, you may be bear bait if you're hunting by yourself. Nasty looking stuff.
It's always good when you can make a trade. A couple of years ago, I traded wild swine that I caught for 2 (yes 2) deer head mounts from my buddy that does taxidermy. I was loving that. ;D When I killed the bucks, I knew I wanted them mounted, but I did not want to drop $350 for each mount. I through the idea out to him, and he jumped on it. I'm not sure how many gutted hogs I brought him, but he was happy, and I was very happy. ;) Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: JCook on January 28, 2011, 08:15:25 am im not to sure about using jagds but your catch dog looks pretty good what is it an AB????

Those Jagds usually work out pretty well. The catch dogs are an AB and a Pit. They got ice in their veins ;D Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: uglydog on January 28, 2011, 09:45:13 am Damn good job Business man!

Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: de_moon on January 28, 2011, 07:10:54 pm im not to sure about using jagds but your catch dog looks pretty good what is it an AB???? You so crazy....those Lampasas County jagds are some Holy Hog Terrors!! Cool trade, Bump. I'm with Cull Buck. I trade 100 pounds of hog meat for a dozen tamales. I should try to up the bartering skills in the future. I'm guessing you were wearing your camo shorts as warm as it was today?? Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: JCook on January 28, 2011, 08:33:17 pm im just saying where i hunt at those little hood ornaments wouldnt make it
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on January 28, 2011, 09:22:53 pm im just saying where i hunt at those little hood ornaments wouldnt make it Partner, I realize you are new here, so I'll give you some unasked-for assistance. Those of us that have been around this site for several years can vouch those "hood ornament's" of Bump's getting it done consistently. There are plenty of pics to prove it. I believe he's got some videos on here as well. Don't start that fight, he will "walk the dog" so to say on you. Those dogs are the real deal, and work great for him. Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: JCook on January 28, 2011, 09:30:38 pm ok thanks for the help not trying to start any fights cause i am new and trying to learn as much as i can about hog dogging maybe i just need to see these little guys in action
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: Doggie on January 28, 2011, 09:38:16 pm I am willing to bet those little hood ornaments would do just fine. If you haven't seen one hunt, don't doubt them.
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: uglydog on January 28, 2011, 10:31:41 pm Quote i agree with not cutting the little guys down but i just cant picture them on any big hogs Look for some Bumps vidoes and then you won't have to imagine it, you can see it for yourself. You see these little dogs don't know they are little, They think they are ten foot tall and bullet proof, and if you think that they can't keep up, or that they couldn't make a hog respect them then you will be surprised. Its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. The word "Jagd" is German for "Hunt", they are not bred to be cute or lap dogs, they are bred to do a job. Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: Bo on January 28, 2011, 11:45:59 pm good hunt
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: catchrcall on January 29, 2011, 01:05:23 am Those dogs can, will, and do, put the brakes on big hogs and keep them bayed. I've seen that very set of dogs do it a hundred times. It they are hood ornaments it's only until they wind one and then they're off the ranger and gone.
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: JCook on January 29, 2011, 08:39:08 pm well everyone i am suprized those jagds are some pretty good dogs but i think i will stick with my currs i love em they are loyal and every other trait that makes a good yard, house, or hunting dog
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: graydog on January 30, 2011, 04:29:33 pm It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. But good pork for bait??? The tamales sound like a much better trade.
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: Noah on January 30, 2011, 05:26:55 pm That's awesome! I've traded fresh shot grouper for sushi, but fresh boar hog sounds a lot easier!!!! ;D Good hunt!!!
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: catchrcall on January 30, 2011, 05:30:24 pm when he starts trading hogs for some of his bulgogi we can talk.
Title: Re: Bartering "wild boar" for sushi Post by: aladatrot on January 30, 2011, 07:56:19 pm I am pretty sure those jagds logged 16 miles on an afternoon hunt yesterday at one of our ranches. I bet bump could give us the actual mileage they logged on their garmins. One of them was gone the whole hunt, and there was a really nice sow in front of her that a wounded veteran got to stick. Those little dogs have heart and will power and that is for sure.
On the sushi... I did not know that my comrades had such fine taste! I usually get barked at for "eating the bait" at restaurants. I am glad to see other hog doggers that enjoy sushi as much as I do! Cheers M |
