Title: need ideas or plans for frame for hog cleaning station
Post by: hoghunterdfw on January 28, 2011, 11:26:33 am
I recently bought some scales and a hoist w/ gambrel to start weighing more of the hogs I catch.  I was hoping to set it up in my tiny ass backyard but there are no big trees back there to use and since I also just got a nice framing nail gun and some extra wood lying around and figured I would build a hog cleaning station that I can mount my hoist and scale to out of the wood.  I have seen some pictures of some cool ones that other people built but I would love more ideas.

Currently I am thinking the simpliest way would be an A-frame type structure build with 2x4 or 2x6 boards. I figure a good height would be 12'-14' so I don't have to bend down much to clean the hogs. Is that going to be tall enough? I was hoping to find an old metal swing set or something like that but I don't think most of the ones I seen are tall enough. Anyways any ideas would be helpful. I definitely want to be sure its reinforced and strong enough to hold a big hog without worrying about it not being unstable or breaking.

Thanks again!  ;D

I would build an A frame and add a roof. Maybe some walls that open up. That way when it is real cold you can keep the wind off. Use heavy lumber on the A frame. I just don't have a way to draw it. But if you take the A frame, put walls on the A parts it would give support for the roof. Then if you walked up to where the swing would be you could make doors that swing all the way to the outside and latch open. That way you only have two solid walls when it is hot. You could also lock it up so your stuff does not get stolen.
