I was at the feed store today getting dog food and asked if they had any heart worm pills.. Well dumb question i guess cuz apparently vets and online pet med sites can sell them but she (the ownwer) todl me that they give thier dogs tvermectin for all there worming??!! Shr said it works just as good and the same!! What have yall experienced with this and is it safe??

ivermectin is for heart worms, zimectrin gold has ivomectin and praziquintel (sp) in it which covers just about everything. Ivomec is not for collie type dogs and you give one notch for 50# if you are using the paste.

ivermectin is safe for most breeds.  It can be fatal to a collie and maybe shepard too, not sure why.  I've used on all of my dogs except my collie looking one and not had a problem.  I use 1cc per hundred pounds, or a tenth of a cc per ten pounds.  So a fifty pound dog would get a half cc.  I usually mix it with something like dr pepper or big red with the fizz taken out to help it go down easier.  Had an old timer tell me recently that he would put the ivomec on a piece of bread and feed it.  

I use the horse tubes, hollow out a hotdog fill it up and feed it. Simple as 1.2.3

Ivermectin is the active ingredient in Heart Guard tablets.

In addition to heart worm prevention, You also need a seperate broad spectrum wormer.

Generally speaking, neither will kill tapes.

for wip worms and other round worms i use panacure.
costs more but works great for me. JMO

just make sure you get the regular injectible not the plus or what ever its called, it can burn out your dog's liver.

So would it b safe to get zimectrin for all my worming for the dogs arrowbar?? Or should i just get ivermectrin and another wormer for different kinds of worms?!

Regular Ivomec once a month every month and lay off bout ever three months and hit em with some panacur to take care of everything else. Been using it for over fifteen years and have never lost a dog to heart worms or anything else caused by worm infestations. Even better to use Ivomec if you are in the lower southern states where the skeeters are bad. This is my worming regement. There are multiple solutions that work. Just be careful you don't over do it with any of them. Happy Hunting

do a search on Ivomec/Ivermectin on here. There is tons of posts on this exact subject the whys and why nots to use certain wormers.
Some on her have figured the dosage on the Zemectrin gold is too high of Ivomec to get the accurate dosage of Praziquantel to be safe and effective, others use it. Difference of methods but thats why I say read whats already in print on here, it will give you enough knowledge from others experience to make agood decision, almost three years of this discussion can be found going back through old posts

I use zimectrin gold in every dog 3 months and older and have never had parasite issues. I live 1.5 miles from the rio grande. So heart worm is something to worry about
