Title: Fort Bend County 12-14-08
Post by: Mike on December 14, 2008, 05:15:37 pm
Chris, Mandi, Clay, Stacy, Matt and I met Thomas Rohan and Lance (catchrcall) this morning at daylight. I'll let them tell the story, but we ended up with 7 hogs including two nice red boars with 2 1/2" and 2 1/4" cutters.

Lance, it was a pleasure to meet and hunt with you... you're welcome anytime.

Lance and the last hog of the day.

Today was one of those rare days that only come ever so often.  I had a great time today with a great group of friends and dogs.  Lance, it was real nice to meet you as well, hope to get to hunt with you again.

It was a great hunt today...

Thomas,
I am glad you were able to make it, and I hope you learned a few things today. Today's lesson was free, the next one will cost you ;D

Lance,
I hope these city hogs were worth the drive...anytime you feel like making the drive again, just give me a heads up and we will put together another hunt.

Rowdy,
I did find a nice muddy spot that looked like a good place to get stuck. I was headed right for it, and Thomas chickened out, said I needed to get back on the road or some nonsense like that....  A little while later Clay decided that we needed to cross a ravine that was DEEP and STEEP. He ran through it in his Rhino without any problem.  My Mule was loaded down with 4 people, 6 hogs, and 2 dogs. As soon as I came to the edge of the ravine, Thomas, Mandi, and Lance all bailed (chickens) I think Thomas even grabbed his dog off the Mule too! I managed to get across the ravine, I think at one point I was listing and on two wheels, but I did make it across. No winching, pushing, or pulling involved ;D

I am gonna be lazy like Mike and let someone else tell the play by play.

Rowdy,

Thanks, I am trying to be on my best behavior and not get stuck so that I can convince Krystal to come hunt with me.  Seems every time I call to invite her on a hunt she makes up some story about having other things she NEEDS to be doing. Like playing with her ass, working her ass, and showing her ass :o

Had a great time today guys, was great to meet everyone and I'm really looking forward to doing it again.  It was a great day to watch and learn, from both people and dogs.  It was one of those days where everything seemed to come together, great people, great dogs, plenty of hogs and good weather.  Thank you for letting me tag along.  It was definately worth the drive.

Ha Rowdy! You Got THat one right, Too FUNNY, and yes Chris, I had to ride my ass today, went all the way to Watterson to do so! Thought Lance would fill in for me, but then I started thinking about that after they left this morning and I went back to sleep, Lance is all Quiet and Polite, so I figured you did kinda miss ME.
Funny thing is was planning on sleeping in, but then my daughter comes and wakes me up to get permission to go hunting with another group. They got Two Big hogs today also, So me & my Ass, just had to sit this one out! Thank You for the invite, I will make it over there sometime, if not soon maybe we can meet up for a Dennys dinner again ;D

Lets see....I think the story went something like......
Bark bark bark bark squeal
Bark bark bark bark squeal
Bark bark bark bark squeal
Bark bark bark bark squeal
Bark bark bark bark squeal
Bark bark bark bark squeal
hey lets head to the truck and call it day
Bark bark bark bark squeal

All joking aside there was too much to put into a story just a lot of good fun.  I would like to add that I have never seen a boar hog that was more cut up from another boar hog as the red one in the middle of the trailer.  He had a huge deep gash on back that was nearly 8" long and about 2" deep and then several more along his side and then a pair of very long deep cuts on his rear end one of which was so big you could see the ball joint in his hip plain as day.  I almost felt bad for him but he seemed compelled to take out is pain and frustration on a few dogs including nearly giving my dog an episiotomy  :o  poor girl....

Here's one of the cuts in his side. He also had scars all over him... i'd like to find the one that did the cuttin'.

This one went 192# on the scales and the other one went 225#.

Yeah Matt, I bet smiley won't be smiling tomorrow! After being brought dinner outside and a quick potty walk, my girls got loaded into the dog box for the night. Those two are going to get pampered for a couple of days, and Lizzie is already milking the situation for all it's worth. They're both so tuckered out I bet they'll sleep all day tomorrow anyway.

I thought all the dogs did really well today, and I certainly had a grand time. I especially thought it was neat catching twin red boars to follow up the twin red sows we got last time we hunted that place. You know, I ought to buy the dogs kolaches more often if it precludes a hunt like this one!

Cheers
M

Thank you guys and gals very much for the invite.  I always have a good time with this crew.  Lance I am glad you were able to stay and hunt.  Chris I am glad you can share your knowledge with a rookie like me.  All I can do now is watch my computer since I can't afford to pay for your advice(even if its only "your 2 cents").  The one thing I did take from you today Chris is how to dismount a mule before crazy things happen.  Matt I believe your story is a little off it was more like Bark Bark Bark squeal, squeal, squeal, squeal, bark bark squeal.  Drive over over pass bark bark grunt,  Mike lookin at tracks then "oh #### turn em loose" bark bark grunt.  Mike we weren't too far off guessed the two boars at 180 and 190.

oops hit post too quick.  Mandi I will not be buying kolaches for my dogs.  Stacy happy belated birth day and I was sure glad to have your help with the sow in the water.  Clay I am going to buy a governor for your Rhino so Chris doesn't feel he has to keep up. ;)

Thomas,

You know, I figured it out. I bought them the regular sized kolaches. Had I bought them the JUMBO ones, we likely would have been on JUMBO hogs - like 400 pounders with 5 inch teeth.

One day, I will prove it  ;D

     Thomas,
If you spend enough time on the computer, you won't ever have to set foot in the woods. Since it is the season of giving, I am gonna go ahead and offer your second lesson free too!  Gonna hit the woods tomorrow afternoon. Do you think you can make it?

Good haul!

Who needs a high-fence place when you have a subdivision, right?

Somebody has their priorities mixed up.  Hunting vs Working and you chose working :o

Keep studying though... In time you will get things figured out. One day, you too will be a "real" hog hunter, instead of just an internet hog hunter. ;)

Nice hunt....seven hogs is a heck of a day. Sounded like a good time and a good friends. Lance is about like me....willing to drive to get out of the deer hunters. He makes a hand on legging those hogs.

Sounds like y'all had one heck of an outing.  Congrats on all the pork.  Just wish there were more people around this area to hook up with and hunt new country without having to drive 2-3 hrs min.  Got the rest of the new pack coming wed and going to turn out sat and see what happens on some real piggy country.  Congrats again on a successful outing and a good time as well.

James, the only reason i bailed out of Chris's mule was because i was missing a hill to climb so bad.  Didn't have one handy so that ravine had to suffice.  sometimes you have to make your own adversity, especially when you're hunting in a mule with surround sound.  ;D
