Title: No such thing as a free horse...well... maybe.. Post by: Noah on December 15, 2008, 12:32:33 am Some people can fall face first into a cow patty and still hop up smelling like a rose....one of my old friends just received a gift from Chipper Jones, who owns a game ranch out in San Antonio. They had a couple "horses" that they weren't using anymore.. one of 'em just happened to be a show finished Tanquery Gin stud(if you're a cutting horse person you'll know what I'm talking about ;D) Well, him and a couple of other well bred fillies showed up at his house today, and guess who got called up to "test drive" ;)??

Yet another stud that'd been jerked on to the point of being goofy. As soon as I went to handle him, he was ready for the fight. So, he got a fight... but this time, it ended with him being cool in the end. Had to do a little work on his front legs ;) but he finally got the picture and came back to gentleman mode. After all that, the cold backed bugger evened out nice. Little slight in build, but he's sure-e-nuff handy. Looks like I've been nominated to "proof" this horse on woods cattle :o...doubt this dude has ever seen a cow outside the arena.... I have the distinct feeling I'll be put on my head at least a couple times with this one ;D... If you can make it over this way Noah, try and come about March and bring your Spurs! I got one coming of age, could use a real cowboy to feel him out fer me. Post by: aladatrot on December 17, 2008, 04:34:30 pm Please don't think I'm knocking that stud, but how is that saddle going to stay on him when he's cutting? Maybe his withers will get more definition when you ride him regularly. My hunting horse (QH) Cooper is big time cutting bred and has close to or a little less wither than that stud has. Is that just how cutters are these days? That's my only hole in Cooper is the fact that I can't keep a saddle on him. You have to stay very balanced on him and keep him very square under you in order to lope circles. If you saddle him and load him up in a stock trailer to go hunting, you always have to stop to straighten his saddle and occasionally you have to remove the thing from his belly. Good thing he's good natured because NONE of my Arabs or Half Arabs would put up with that, and I don't baby them either. As a matter of fact, I don't even think Chris' ranch gelding would deal with his saddle riding his belly like Cooper does.
I'll get a photo of Coop's withers. I don't ride in a breast collar or a back girth, maybe I should start. I've been fighting that concept. Cheers! M ps I liked the whole English Horse thing better on you. Is there any way you could post some photos of you on a Saddlebred or an NSH? kidding m |
