Title: What kind of vest for greyhound Post by: SwampHunter on March 10, 2011, 10:22:07 am What kind of vest would be best for a grey hound ? I was thinking a normal catch vest wouldn't let her run wide open like she likes too , so any ideas ??
Title: Re: What kind of vest for greyhound Post by: Heaven Sent Kennel on March 10, 2011, 09:44:24 pm I'd get one custom made that was built like a catch vest as far as material used and get it in a half vest. If I was doing this that what I would do and get it where it ends just before the end of the ribs. Just an idea.

I am ordering one of these for a Stag. Should allow full range of motion, run cool, and is light weight. Title: Re: What kind of vest for greyhound Post by: Heaven Sent Kennel on March 10, 2011, 09:58:05 pm not sure I'll ask a guy I work with that used to run coyote dogs and see. I think a dog is going to be hot in any kind of vest. A place in waurika ok started to put grommets in thier vest so air could pass through. Good idea really but that could help also just depends how gritty the dog is I reckon.

Title: Re: What kind of vest for greyhound Post by: waylon-N.E. OK on March 10, 2011, 11:33:44 pm Greyhounds are very heat sensitive, not at all like a cur or even a stag. They will stroke out on you if your not careful, We don't run'em up here unless it's 60 or less. Just my experience with them, we don't use track dogs our are bigger so that may be part of it
Title: Re: What kind of vest for greyhound Post by: Silverton Boar Dogs on March 10, 2011, 11:37:06 pm Aussie dollars I believe. I am getting the standard plate with velcro. No one that I know of in the states is building a plate for running dogs at this time. I held a few J & S plates in my hands at the TDHA hunt and was very impressed.

Title: Re: What kind of vest for greyhound Post by: slick on March 11, 2011, 04:23:21 am you should check the exchange rate at the moment, not so good for you guys.
there are few good chest plates availble in oz, ive dealt with jsent before and he is super. duncanscollars have some good ones too. for a greyhound hound though i reckon you would just need a good rip collar, ive found they do like to lay the teeth on but they usually grab a back leg. they have soft skin too and will probably get more tears from the scrub than hogs. Title: Re: What kind of vest for greyhound Post by: SwampHunter on March 11, 2011, 09:44:09 am Thanks guys , the only other problem I'm having is finding a hog in a place big enough with no fences for her to get on lol I know one thing though she absolutely hates a hog !!! An I'm still waiting for her to come in heat !!!
Title: Re: What kind of vest for greyhound Post by: Heaven Sent Kennel on March 11, 2011, 11:09:07 am That guy that had coyote dogs had a dog not liking to go through barbed wire fence. He set up a lil obstacle course to train that dog to go under. Had wires set at various heights. Might try that if its barbed wire fence you're dealing with and have permission on all sides of it
Title: Re: What kind of vest for greyhound Post by: SwampHunter on March 11, 2011, 11:14:35 am The main thing I was worried about was her running wide open in to the bob wire when she got her mind on the hog instead of watching where she goin
