Title: Dog Box Post by: Flatbroke on December 27, 2008, 07:04:59 pm Here is a picture of the dog box I have been using, it was stolen from my house but found in Bigworms Garage the same day ;D. ( he made it but I marked it when we was on our first hunt with it so it makes it mine right, LOL) It is a two door box that will be outfitted with a removable divider that can be moved from center to make less room on one side to store an injured dog and allowing three dogs in the other side. Its made out of aluminum, welded, and weighs about 50 pounds. fits between the wheel wells on a standard size pickup.

Question - why are the doors on these type of boxes always solid like this? Does that keep the dogs more calm? Or cooler? Not slamming this design on this box - just curious why they seem to always be build like that.

My dad had this one made out of some old monkey cages he found at the scrap yard, pluss a few extra parts like hinges and such. That was back when scrap aluminum was bringin top dollar and add in the labor for having it welded even recycled dog boxes are expensive. Only thing about it I dont like is the aluminum bars rattle so the box is niosy. The sheet metal doors are stronger, and simple to build, if they are formed from a solid sheet. I also like the open tubing style. They are more expensive to build, and we do not stock that material.Tim Title: Re: Dog Box Post by: B19 on December 29, 2008, 07:46:14 pm Good looking box. My dad was a sheet metal worker and he made a lot of similar boxes for his friends when I was a kid. They all got good reviews from the guys that used them.
