In California it would get so dry scent trailing was hard.  Hogs there need to visit water at least twice a day, usually at sun up and sun down.  On small places that had hogs using a water source, a spring, a stock pond, trough, etc. we would take just catch dogs and lay down way down wind from that water source.  We would loop the dog leash around our ankles and take nap.  When the CD woke us up dragging us towards the water source, we cut em loose.  Not sure it I would want to try this with a 140 pound AMBull or Dogo!  We used horse panic snaps on our CD leashes.

You can catch alot of hogs like that.  It's quick, easy, fun, and it is still considered hunting in my book.
