Title: New gps tracking/training system?
Post by: slckhunter1978 on March 27, 2011, 02:19:57 am

Just wanted to see if yall know about this new tracking/training system coming out and what yall think about it?

SportDOG Brand Introduces
Combination GPS Tracking & Remote Training System
Knoxville, Tenn. (January 18, 2011) – SportDOG Brand, a leading manufacturer of sporting dog training gear and accessories, has introduced the industry’s first combination remote dog training and tracking system: the TEK 1.0. The new system is available with GPS tracking capabilities only (Model TEK 1.0L) or with a dual-purpose collar-receiver (Model TEK 1.0LT) that allows remote training via stimulation, vibration or tone.

“This is a huge breakthrough for our customers who run hounds, not to mention bird hunters who rely on far-ranging pointing dogs,” said Lance Tracy, SportDOG Brand’s Vice President. “This product eliminates the need to carry additional telemetry gear. Everything a hunter could possibly need to locate and control his dog is accessible from one compact and well-designed handheld unit.”

The TEK’s compact transceiver features a backlit liquid crystal display and integral electronic compass. Used as a GPS, the scalable screen provides a 75-mile diameter view and multiple-waypoint capabilities. Paired with the tracking collar-receiver, it shows a dog’s location from up to 7 miles away, and reports the dog’s status (stopped or direction of movement). The transceiver, designed with SportDOG Brand’s DRYTEK technology, is waterproof and submersible to 25 feet. It can be programmed to track up to 12 dogs at once.

For training with the 1.0LT model, the transceiver communicates with a collar receiver that connects with the tracking collar receiver. In addition to the tracking features, the system can then also be used to control up to 12 dogs simultaneously via up to 100 levels of e-collar stimulation, vibration or tone.

Like the transceiver, the tracking and training collar receivers feature DRYTEK waterproofing. All components charge quickly via a single wall adapter, providing a minimum of 20 hours of use between charges.

***Available in July 2011***

I have also read some rumor blogs that Garmin is releasing a new Astro hand held unit compatible with the dc tracking collars, either late 2011 or 2012.  It is being called the Garmin Astro 320.

They say the gps unit will have a range of 7 miles,,, wonder how far the shocking signal is gonna transmit.  Cause if it is a 7 mile shocking system it will be too rich for me to buy

I was on the Marshall website a while back and there was some hinting that they were working on a gps type unit as well....wouldn't matter to me though b/c I can't even afford their regular telemetry systems.

yes the unit and one collar is 700 and extra collar is around 350. i believe the gps is gonna be almost just like garmins. I even heard they kinda copied garmin on that. U will be able to buy just a tracking or just a training collar as well if that's what u want. I found it on ebay. U can already pay for them and they will ship out in July! I think i will wait around and check out reviews b4 i try one. Lol

They have been hinting at this for about 2 years now.... I was trying to wait it out but just ended up getting a garmin.

The collars are very expensive do they have a option to use a standard collar with out training aids? You may have only one dog that needs shoking but have 4 other dogs seems a waste of money to pay double for a collar and dont need its functions I like the idea though.

Sounds like wreck waiting to happen, i cant do 2 things at once, be tryin to find my dogs or change a page or somethin and be shockin my dog for doin what he supposed to instead. LOL

Ill just keep my garmin and goin to get me a tri tronics one of these days, and unless marshalls unit is MUCH better. Im keeping what i got.

Jason they do sell just the training and just the tracking collars alone also. like 200 for just a tracking collar and pretty close to the same for just a training collar. Take a look at em on ebay - it shows the options

If they are selling the tracking collars only with the unit I may give it a shot. I don't need the shocking. I love my Garmin but in thick coverage it gives me the blues at times. Im sure in about 3 years, there should be a 100% reliable GPS system. It gets old running dc collars + Wildlife Collars!

I was told by Steve of Gundogsupply that the sportdog and garmin 220 get about the same range, but the garmin 320 seemed to be better than both on range... thats about all i can tell you about range..

But the updated compass and birds eye view will be worth the extra bucks for the 320 to me..  ;)
