1st 722#
2nd 709#
3rd 704#
4th 652#

Dont know the teams or who won, something about a group from Alpine, I heard they were the only ones not torn to shreds as all other hunters were products of the south texas brush country  ;D

I think someone told me we got 6th overall with 566#.  We hunted around Catarina.

Congrats to all the hunters who hunted the South Texas brush country.  As far as bringing hogs in from other regions..... IMO, not as worthy as recieving my congratulations.  Catching BIG hogs in the desert of South Texas with the high heat, cactus and tough terrain is a whole other deal.

Congrats to all that hunted!!  Boy howdy!  West Texas has some nasty, high heat, big cliffs, cactus, and some hogs with Nikes so its  still a tough hunt.  I've hunted in all parts of Texas and have encountered lots of different challenges.  It can be tough in any area and also easy just depends on where the hogs are.

i dont have the time to argue with every idiot on here.  we caught that hog with 3 bay dogs and 2 bulldogs not in a pen.  you can ask anyone from south texas that knows us, we dont cheat!  if we wanted to cheat, we would have turned in 3 more that size.

Yes, Barefoot Bob is one heck of a man and a heck of a hog hunter.  I know this for a fact because he is my best friend and hunting partner.  His real name is Bob Richardson.  He's been hunting hogs with dogs before it was ever popular.  I was lead to this website searching for results and pictures of the Marranos Muertos contest.  I was surprised to see all the rumors flying around about the contest.  Bob and I have hunted this contest for the last three years.  Our team has hunted our butts off to do as well as we've done.  The ranch we hunt is north of Abilene, not anywhere near Alpine.  It is 10,000 acres+, all low-fenced.  Every hog we have ever brought into a contest is caught with dogs.  To straighten up a so-called "protest" at this year's contest.....
It was brought to our attention from ONE of the other teams.  They said our hogs weren't chewed-up enough to be caught with dogs.  One of the Los Cazadores owners politely asked if it would be okay with us if one of the team members that was complaining could skin our hogs to look for bullet holes. We gladly told him to go ahead.  One of the members started to skin one of the heads of one hog.  He skinned it about four inches and gave up.  That was the end of that.
The weight that we won it with this year was 722 lbs.  Last year this weight wouldn't have been close to winning.

We are just hard-core hog hunters that love to hunt.  Next time you see us, come say hello.  I'll be the one standing next to the guy that's barefoot.

I agree our wt last year was not as high as it was this year, and we dont use 5 dogs on 1 hog we use 1 catch dog and maybe a baydog if need. We make a living off of our caught hogs and tyhey will not take them if they have marks on them its not easy to train dogs to get off the ear so quick but to pay my biils I have to. We sold over 100,000 lbs last year and i have paper work to prove it.. We dont just do this for fun yes it is fun but this is how I pay my bills and feed my kids. Barefoot Bob is my father in law which I have known since I was 2 yrs old he has been hunting hogs since he was probably 8 yrs old alone and Barefoot... He then has his son hunting and guiding hunts at 9 yrs old so its in there blood to be hunters.. He is super nice and you can call us up and come down and hunt with us or just talk with him he has more knowledge than I will ever be able to remember, He has been on numerous Tv shows and has atleast 20 to 30 people from out of state some out of our country come down just to meet him and go chase a hog... I wont lie I dont cheat or steal but I will admit if I get beat I get beat, I have had nights where we have been out and got skunked didnt catch a hog one and then I have been out and caught up to 20 a night its just part of the game. But I hope all hunters realize dont listen to what ya hear from others thats how people get bad reputations just call me up and i will let you be the judge of what kind of people the Richardson's are.. Thanks Brandi Richardson

Just a question? When did hogs start to become a problem in West Texas? I grew up east of San Antonio and hunted since I was 10 but we had to travel 2hrs south to catch any hogs it wasn't until 1988or89, that hogs started to populate the farmlands and rivers near our area. I know I hunted in Alpine in the early 90's while going to college but I know how those hogs got there. rolleyes

Hey Robert we really started noticing them around where I live about 7-8 years ago they had a few in other places around here for longer but not here and since then its been crazy I can't imagine numbers in places that have had them for a long time because I can see what the population has done in the short time around my town in crazy!  But I wouldn't have it any other way lol

There were a number of hogs in south texas at that time but concentrated in small areas. I remember some ranchers that wanted animals, so their hunters could hunt year round. These hogs were transported and introduced to many ranches, but just got out of control.
