Title: 1st hog of the new year Post by: cowcountryhogdogger on January 04, 2009, 12:40:13 am Well we just got back in from our first hunt of the new year. We had given the dogs a few days rest from the first of the week so we decided to go hunt tonight. I got creative this afternoon and had a buddy of mine take us up in his plane to see if we could locate the pigs since we hadn't had much luck the last two hunts. We flew for about 1 hr and no luck finding any pigs. We decided to give it a go anyway. We got a call from the ranch owner about an hour before we left telling us that one of the other hands had seen some pigs along a creek earlier in the evening so we headed out there about 9. We turned out and hunted the dogs down the creek one way for about 2 miles with no luck so we headed back and hunted the dogs the other way down the creek. They struck out across a wheat field and didn't circle back so we headed that way when we heard them on bay. ;D We got over to where they were and sent the CD in. He caught and the boar backed up into a bluebush facing us so we had to run him out enough for us to get hands on him to leg him. When he came out he shook all the bay dogs off and one dog got a cut under his right front shoulder but just a little skin missing. We legged the pig and clipped dogs and stuck the pig. He was a big boar that we guessed about 260 lbs with about 3" cutters and 2 - 2 1/2" whetters. Good time and the dogs worked good. Only one minor injury to start the new year so looks like its going to be a good year. Here are the pics.
