Title: PLOTT CROSSES?
Post by: slckhunter1978 on April 07, 2011, 12:51:45 pm
Just curious i bought a plottxbmc from a guy out of florida at uncle earls. Didn't ever know u could register a mixed breed dog, but apparently u can register them as treeing curs because he gave me papers to send in on him??? just curious have u guys heard of this and is it legit?

You get it from thos guys at Bay Head?

I saw those pups in their pen...nice looking pups.  They should definately come from good working parents.

Don't know about registering them,....but I do know that you could have the makings of some of the best dogs you've ever had. Don't know what it is about a Plott/cur cross that makes them so good, wish I did...keep us posted on their progress....could wind up being stem-winders.

I have seen registered treeing curs on the ukc website. They were walker/cur i think but if both dogs are registered with the ukc i dont see why they cant register em.

They dreamed this up at least 10 years ago. They usually take a hound and cross it with a cur and call them treeing curs. These are just cross breeds to me but someone dreamed this up and they are making money registering mutts.

A buddy of mine had a strike dog named Sam that was a registered Treeing Cur I think he was Walker x BMC. I have seen National Treeing Cur Association in the Full Cry Magazine to me its just way to see the pedigree on both sides of the parents for people that want to know.

Thanks Aw what u said makes the most sense - i didn't think about that. Yeah i have already had the cross and still do. they are just like any other dog. some of them turn out good and quite on track and some don't but that hound seems to put a little more hunt in them to me and i like it. I was just wanting to cut it down a little more is why i got him. I want 1/4 plott in my curs or maybe even down to an 1/8? Yes he was from that guy out of florida that was right across from the entrance to the baypen bryant. I had a buddy from coushatta tell me that he has got that cross from that same man b4 and they turned out dam good! said they were the best long range hunters he ever owned and thats what i like. Thanks for yalls responses i just wanted to see what yall thought on them being registered. Like i said i never heard of being able to register a cross bred dog. Like AW said maybe so u can keep up with the parents they came from for ppl that want to know. To me i don't care as long as the dog hunts good and finds pigs!!!!! Thankyou

Guys im not a dog trader by any means but i bought a registered plott hound from uncle earls too. The man was out of arkansas and selling him because he was open on track. I bought him because i figured u couldn't lose paying $400 for a really good looking reg plott hound that was a finished hog dog. And as far as i can tell he is finished and he is cold nosed and wide open on track. I was gonna breed him to my cat gyp to get to the cross i wanted in my dogs but i have done decided i really don't need to keep him because i won't hunt an open dog unless i go by myself. anyways the first time i took him out he found 2 sows but he was barking about 20mins on track b4 he got them bayed. I also had deer run across right in front of him and he could have cared less he didn't even look at em twice. im gonna tell u i was shocked to see a hound not wanna run deer!!! lol just didn't think it was possible. But anyway if yall know anyone that hunts open dogs i will sell him just the way i bought him.(Meaning Cash in hand and no trial) has a pedigree a mile long goes back 7 generations i can tell u he has the weems blood in him. And no im not positng him in the dog trader forum cause i dont need a bunch of bullcrappers......

slckhunter,

You also bought Bill?  He is sure enough a nice looking hound, and you're right...I don't think I've ever seen a set of papers like that dog has.  It's a dang scroll, about four feet long!!

Met those folks year before last, and they sure are seemingly nice people.  Spent some time talking to them this year, and a hunting friend of mine ended up buying a yellow female from them that supposedly wasn't for sale.

I know those folks; I bought a Catahoula from them the week before Unlce earls w no trial. They told me the dog was silent on track and would strike a hog but not the best strike dog. Anyways dog was semi open on a track, super trashy, and would not strike on a minute old track. I only bought with no trial cause I knew them through a church friend and my wives family had sang at their church before. Anyways I called to tell them dog was semi open, she said did you try a shock collar (haha Im thinking, I didnt buy a dog that I had to break from baking, you said she was silent) she said shed talk to her husband but never called back. I understand there was no trial but they told me the dog was silent- straightup. Anyways wont happen again. I aint buyin a dog w/o a trial even if its kin folk.

BTW - these folks are TLC Kennels, Don and Wanda Brown

Yes bryant it is bill will the scroll for a pedigree! He seems to be a jam up dog if someone likes open dogs but like i said i bought him mainly to breed him with my gyp, but if that pup makes it i can use him so if someone gave me $500 for him i would let him go. Only bad thing about him is he WILL NOT put mouth on a hog of any size. Let me tell you he will git on out there and hunt all day long and he is very fast. Very very smart dog also! lol its funny when he runs out of water he will pick the 5gal bucket up bring it towards me and jump up and down with it sticking straight out in front of him. He has alot of character and minds really good. Absolutely no problem with loading up and he will come to you when you call him. I will keep him if no one wants him that aint no problem but if they do its 500 cash in hand and none of that trial b.s. Im an honest person and he WILL DO exactly what i say he does and i have the previous owners number if anyone would like to ask him anything about his dog. Bryant im sure we talked at uncle earls but i talked to alot of ppl so i wouldn't remember real good. You werent on a buggy talking to him when i was huh? Yes i thought long and hard about that gyp you are talking about he said he would sell her for 1000 no trial. For that much money i would had to have something to go back on and he wouldn't agree to anything but im sure she is a jam up dog because he sure didn't story to me about bill. Nice talking to you

i don't know what to tell u curdawg but he didn't story to me about Bill. He is everything he told me he would be down to the tee! Thats no b.s. I really just liked the dog and wanted him at the time. never know i may run into someone that likes hunting open dogs one day? As for right now the folks i hunt with don't go for that so i won't be hunting him much and i hate for him not to be doing what he loves to do. I sure hate a dog going to waste. Though i will run him every so often behind my house by his self of course. Have actually caught hogs like that b4 you know the very select few that will just stand there and look at a dog like hes crazy? lol, But i know exactly what you are talking about cause i have been done like that probably 100 times or maybe even more! I really would have like to tryd that bmc gyp but no way in hell i pay 1000 bucks with no trial. Nope NO WAY IN HELLL!!!!!lLOL

I hear ya! Its really my bad for not gettign a trial. Like I said it wont happen again. I got out ok I sold her for what I had in her ( I just wont do anybody liek that and dont wana be done like that). I told the guy everything I knew about her and he still wanted her. She was one of the best looking redleapards I ever saw and big too, bout 60 or 70 lbs. So the guy that bought was gonna breed her.

Yeah man the dog i bought that plott to breed to is a really good looking registered red leopard. ive had her since a lil pup and shes 6 i don't use her for hunting she is my gaurd dog and the best dam gaurd dog ive ever seen. she doesn't like anybody but family! i just hope that bills traits come out in them dominant for hunting uses. i will find out if i don't get rid of him. I will not try one without a trial usually even if they only want 200 for a dog but i won't do the cash in hand b.s. again either i have been stuck with some sorry ass dogs and can't ever find the f****r that sold them too me again. one sucker got me for 1200 with 2 sorry ass dogs when i first got into this and i learned that will never ever ever happen again.!!!! But if i want a dog for breeding or anything else and its not a bad price like bill then i will go with it.(i know i can get my money back outta him.)

well i don't think i can copy that really long scroll and git it on the computer and i sure aint gonna type it all out lol. i could tell him some of it over the phone though. It goes back 7 generations i believe and has mostly weems blood in him. If your serious pm me with your number
