Dog trade and Classified are being "revamped"

If we have to keep babysitting both boards, they will go away.

I for one, enjoy having them as resources. What I don't like is having to deal with the crooks selling finished dogs and stealing people's money, and the buyers that don't have enough sense to take a test drive before they buy.  Then both parties want to call us and have us straighten out their problems.

If someone always has finished dogs for sale, beware.

If they want to meet you on the side of the road, beware.

If it looks too good to be true, it probably is, beware.

I think something needed to be done.  I have noticed several new members selling dog every other day, and also posting wanting to buy posts.  I think they need to be a member for a certain amount of time or post a certain number of posts before they have the privilage to post.

The problem with a post count requirement is this.

Good hog, good hog, good hog, good hog, good hog, good hog, good hog, good hog, good hog, good hog, good hog... finished dog for sale $5,000... meet me at Dairy Queen.

They just post BS posts to run up the count, then BAM they have some finished dogs, they are selling out, etc.

I like the term "member in good standing"---

I haven’t and probably never will sell a dog on classified adds, BUT I believe it’s a great tool for some good, honest folks to sell GOOD stock it COULD be a win---win situation ---Just a humble opinion from a "relative" newbie to THIS forum.

If it wasn't for the dog trade and classifieds ,I wouldn't even have a whole lot of interest in this site. There is a lot of good info and good people on here, but wading through all the bs and ignorance gets tiresome. On second thought , I guess I would keep on coming back cause I get a lot of good laughs on here. Truth is we're all still learning and all of us are at differrent levels of knowledge and preferences. We need to keep that in mind and as far as the "crooks" on here- if you haven't noticed they are everywhere. Except for the grace of God ,there go I.

I would like to add to CircleC's comment,
Have enough sense to research, ITS SIMPLE, click on the sellers name, then click on where it says "See All Of Users Recent Posts" then read up on that individual, Theey have 35 posts and 33 of those posts are in the DOG TRADE section, They don't buy a dog from them, "Why" because they don't contribute anything anywhere else on here to give a hint that they may have used those dogs to do anything with them. Its not absolute but its a "CLUE" not to buy from them. Then if they can't show you the dog hunt, then don't buy it!

PEOPLE PUT YOUR DERN PHONE NUMBER in the AD, OR DON'T POST, its a waste of everybody's time and, I don't take kindley to my time being wasted. When you figure OUT you forgot something in your ad, go to the "EDIT" button and change your ad, insread of posting again just the stuff you left out, it does not work that way.

ONCE AGAIN IF YOU DON"T LIKE THE RULES, or the people that are here, then DON"T READ IT, DON"T VISIT, BUT IF YOU WANT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT, you will get some help finding the door.

I enjoy the dog trade forum. The three dogs I currently own I bought through the dog trade forum. I'm well pleased with all of them. 2 are pups. And 1 is a finished dog, I had a 2 week trial on. Good dogs are there do your home work & get a trail.

Every dog that I own was bought off the dog trade, but i did my research. I am happy with everyone of my purchases. I guess I wouldn't be able to hunt without it.

there is only 1 thing I disagree with the mods saying that it is bad to meet folks at "Dairy queen" or the "side of the road", I only want the people close to me that I trust knowing where I live and keep my dogs. I had a fella meet me at my house one time to buy a finished bird dog, he got there scoped out the place and came back a week later while I was at work and stole every dog on the yard. I will never have another person come to my house to buy a dog.

i have been a moderator at two different unrelated sites. it is alot of work sometimes especially when you figure that it is done for free. it's done for the love of the site and sport, at least that is why i agreed to it.

Ben, Thats been something that has always bothered me too.... Its not always the seller thats a crook, sometimes it can be the buyer...Most of the dogs ive sold have been to people I know or have some kind of idea who they are... Luckily i havent had any problems other than me buying a few junk dogs...but they never left the yard the same way they came....

Plus i try to keep in contact with the people that buy a dog from me to see how they are working for them...  ;)
So far no complaints!!

Ben, I feel the same way... but anyone selling a sure enough dog can show it in the woods, they don't have to know where you live.

The point, don't meet a stranger on the side of the road somewhere and hand over 100's or 1,000's of dollars based on an ad you found on the internet... it happens all the time. ???

The problem is that we CONTINUE to empower the Dog jockeys to keep doing what they do best....Screw us....As Mike stated earlier anyone wanting to buy a finished dog needs to go hunt with it first.  If the guy bull number 2s around then tell them you are NO LONGER INTERESTED!!

Thats not a problem for me because my dogs were given to me and they are awesome in my eyes. So if someone wants me to give them ACTUAL CASH for a dog  :D , they are dang sure going to have to prove that the dog can do some hog finding and catching tricks. LOL   No disrespect to anyone selling a dog, Im just really tight with my money.

i dont think that there is anything you can do to stop the scam artist. my suggestion to everyone is, if you get took on a dog broadcast it to the world. put his name out there, label this person to everyone as a dog jockey. if he cant sell dogs then he aint scamming anybody. if you see an ad in the dog trade and you know its a dog trader, jump on the general discussion and point it out. dont allow these people to do what they are doing. if you dont point em out then you are an enabler.

A courtesy that I do when i sell or even give a dog away is give the person our card for our kennel, I have only sold one finished dog and i sold her for 200 i really needed the money at the time or might have sold her for 400 but the buyer watched her work in a baypen, i guarenteed his money back and gave him my card and because I do this with every dog I sell I have people call me and tell me how the dogs are doing, i especially like to hear from people how the pups outta my stock are doing... I guess my point is be a reponsible buyer and seller

Title: Re: Dog trade?

well they would just have to ban me....if i get took, then im gonna throw em under the bus every chance i get. the way i see it is, if you get me then its my responsibility from that point on to do my very best to ensure you dont get anybody else. I love getting on this site 200 hundred times a day. i love reading all the post and the classifieds, but i hate hearing about somebody loosing out on a bad deal. if you get took and didnt get a trial, its on you. but you still should put em on front street. JMO

That's all fine and dandy, go start your own webite so YOU can start getting threatened with lawsuits and threatened to have YOUR website shutdown. ;) It ain't happening on here... never has, never will. If anyone has a problem with that, don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out, cause it ain't up for debate.

Besides, all the dog crooks use fake names and throw away cell phones... next week they'll have new ones. Who are you going to name???

you also have to think about the dog itself, not the person selling it....

Say you sell a dog that has been doing real good, some Newbie buys him and takes him out the night he buys him and he wont hunt for him... the next day he jumps on the www. and starts throwing it all around that you are a dog jockey and ripped him off...

Some dogs take time to adjust, but some people want them to go to work right away... and thats just not going to happen...

Would you want your name pissed on just because someone was too impatient to let a dog adjust???

And thats just one scenario that could happen...

I agree 100% with ya Mike, It took 13 dogs off the dog trade for me to figure it out but the most was $300 on one and it was a meet me here deal. Not 1 dog I paid for turned out to be anything but good fertilizer in the garden.

I seen a post on here not too long ago that had bull # 2 written all over it.  Hog huntin is like being a drug addict,  I have seen dope heads that would smoke a dog turd if they thought it would get them high. then get all mad and upset cause it didnt and then want to blame the one that told them it would.

Dog jockeys are like drug dealers, they know that people will over look commen sense things and go out of there way and pay big money to buy a hog dog, cause they are in a rush and will tell you what you anything, to sell you a dog.

moral of the story- Just cause somebody says you can get high from smokin dog turds dont mean its true.  Slow down and think about things, use common sense. Dont be affraid to miss a deal, there will be more.

Some of the best dogs i ever owned were either free or i raised from pups, and yes i have been burned too.

I put a couple dogs on there when i was in Tx, they were callin and txt me 2 seconds after i hit the send key, all day long non stop.

I also agree with T.Wilbanks, and people comin to my house, i havnt had it happen yet, but have been worried a time or two,

Not everybody is a crook, but not everybody is honest either. One mans cull is another mans best dog.

I for one would hate to see the dog trade get shut down. I dont get on there much, but do enjoy lookin thru it. I dont have to worry much about gettin burned or buyin dogs cause i am 1,000 mi away from most that are on there, but i would make the trip if i knew 100% i was getting a dog that was the real deal, and what I like.

I really enjoy this whole sight, and think the mods are doin a great job. THANKS!

Sorry for being sooo long winded, just in the mood i guess.

Hence the reason I said I don't think there is anything you can do to stop them. I apologize for my comment earlier. I spoke out of aggravation earlier. I hate a thief, probably why I have been a cop for eleven years. Dog traders are thiefs in my book.
