Only if you don't want your dog to smell a skunk.

I have never heard of that but I do know that you can put vicks on a female that is in heat and it will block the scent so you can hunt her with males and they will leave her alone.

Its a big myth, and the only thing it will do is irritate the dogs nose, and as far as putting it on females, thats a big myth also. It will only irritate their rear.

I do however think it works a little with the stud horses.

I don't know about a hunting dog but I'll tell you this, it sure magnifies my sense of smell.
I found out the hard way. Long story short, in the police academy a former paramedic told us it would cover the stench of the autopsy room. Lying, prankin son of a gun!!! All it did was make even the strongest of stomachs sick. It made me smell a lot more than I could imagine.  >:D

My guess is that it won't help. Best thing to do is work on getting a colder nosed dog.

X2 on that

on the other hand we used a cream we had, cant rem the name its been to long but it smelled like icy hot and used it on our dogs, goats, horses and kept them from sniffin

and i got the ol icy hot trick when i was promoted to specialist in the army, they held me down and put it on the "region" and told me to handle the heat

it does work on females in heat because i do it when I have no choice but to hunt a gyp in heat and it works wonders but like everyone else has said I wouldnt put it on their nose

Maybe some females run alil hotter than others, I tried that crap on a female pit once and all it did was give  my male dog a greased up...never mind  :D

Doesnt work.  A dog's nose has the ability to pick apart scents.  When people smuggle dope they try masking it with different cover scents i.e. grease, mustard, soap.  A dog is able to work past the strongest odor and work other odors mixed in.  I was given the example if you smell a hamburger a dog can smell the meat, cheese, bread, lettuce, and tomato.

yeah but if you fix your dog, you basically screw yourself if it is a really good dog, because then you can reproduce the bloodline or good traits from that dog

I believe this to be true, I had a plott jerk a pole cat out of a hole and shake the snot out of it, got sprayed BAD, I thought he wont be smelling anything for a day or two. After some much needed training  ;D sent him on and, 5 mins later treed a lay up coon. I wouldnt have believed it if i hadnt seen with my own eyes.
