Title: ? aggravating other dogs
Post by: Bo Pugh on April 21, 2011, 05:12:51 pm
i have these 2 female dogs one cur and one gsp, i take them both hunting, well the ? is my curr dog is always looking for the birdog just to aggravate her, the curr will run beside her and then whirl over there and cut her off like she dont want her to hunt, and make her turn and sometimes bite at her face shes not trying to fight just aggravating her, and when the birdog gets gone you can tell that the curr is not hunting just running and looking for the birdog, she dont do it to any of the other dogs, i have caugh her by the back leg and wore her out a couple times and that seems to help for about 30 min and then right back at it, has anyone else ever had a dog that did that before and should i put the e collar on her

If you other dogs are hunting well, id try the E collar and then if that doesn't work, think about culling.  How old is the dog?  Sounds like a pup

the dog is a little over a year old she just started doing this, before she was coming on pretty good she would have never been considered a cull but  now shes concerned with this other dog, i try to use the ecollar as a last resort but it looks like she is gonna get a dose of it

Leave the bird dog home a couple hunts and get the dog focused back on hunting.  Or leave her home for a few hunts and let her mature had to do that with one of mine would not leave a buddys cd alone.  Left him home a few hunts and then took him again the other day and it was a lot better

put the cur on a pig or two with or without the other dog... if she decides messing with other dogs is more important that finding pigs then i would cull... just remember what shes doing is probably ruining your other dog and maybe dogs in the future..JMO

Sounds like she is just being a puppy... If she don't do it with other dogs I would try just hunting her with other dogs or by herself..

Excellent advice.  I just wouldn't hunt those two together for a while

I havn't had any hog dogs do it but have seen alot of bird dogs that would trail. Some of them would get in front of the other dog and make every move the other dog made. I always called those head trailers.

What I would do is not hunt the dogs together or hunt it with other dogs. If it continues with other dogs I would look at culling.
