Title: Open mouth dogs Post by: Jared H. on April 29, 2011, 05:24:54 pm Not trying to start another thread about open vs silent , or if hogs run more with an open dog. I was just wondering how many people on this site run open mouth dogs and consistently catch hogs.

Title: Re: Open mouth dogs Post by: johnf on April 29, 2011, 07:19:21 pm i hunt dogs that bark and if we can find the hogs here in sc we can catch them.they almost all run here.a silent dog might bay 5 seconds and the race is on.
Title: Re: Open mouth dogs Post by: TShelly on April 29, 2011, 09:28:56 pm Jet308: almost every dog we hunt is open.. We have about 4 out of the 20 or so that are SILENT as night. Every other one we hunt gives mouth, may it be a little or a few with alot. SPEED and tons of bottom are what produce the pork for us. We over 130+ for the year, so the mouthy dogs are getting it done :)

Title: Re: Open mouth dogs Post by: tnhillbilly on April 30, 2011, 03:09:33 am Add me to the list, I hunt them both, dont matter, if a hogs gonna run, its gonna run and if its already runnin it dont matter if they are barkin or not, "its still runnin". ;)
I like something in the middle, I dont mind the mouth, caught plenty with open dogs. Title: Re: Open mouth dogs Post by: firemedic on April 30, 2011, 12:03:31 pm Guess I'm a 'middle' man too, my dogs are silent but I hunt with guys that have open mouthed hounds...mostly Plotts. Killed 137 hogs in GA last season in 2 months.....and these hogs run....like all those 'apes' y'all are always speaking of. So I guess it's working for us.
Title: Re: Open mouth dogs Post by: SwineHunter on April 30, 2011, 02:03:46 pm I like a little open it seem to make my pups stay interested. :) just my 2 cents rolleyes
Title: Re: Open mouth dogs Post by: coyote hunter on April 30, 2011, 03:40:50 pm I have a redbone that's open. Works 4 me Cuz when he's chasing he calls the silent dogs to him. I used to open but I'm learning that it don't hurt to b open. I do think it keeps a hog running longer but if has a long headstart but if the dogs want him bad enuff they'll get him
Title: Re: Open mouth dogs Post by: Jared H. on April 30, 2011, 03:57:47 pm Thanks for all of the input so far. I have a BMCxRedbone cross that's a little over a year old and he has found more than a few hogs but he has started opening on track. I was considering selling him because of it but I raised him from a pup and he has a whole lot of potential. Thanks again for the input, keep it coming.
