Title: what kinda boots? Post by: Peachcreek on April 30, 2011, 02:24:30 pm I have been looking to buy some high topped hunting boots... what brand of boots do you guys like? I am looking for something non insulated and water proof. also i have a big calf so most of the boots i have tried on at academy were painfully tight around my calf.
Title: Re: what kinda boots? Post by: dub on April 30, 2011, 03:54:54 pm Water proof? The water is always deeper than expected. I use jungle boots with holes so the water drains out with water wicking socks. That way when I get wet it drains out. I tend to always end up in the water. I keep sandals or fresh shoes and socks in my truck.

Title: Re: what kinda boots? Post by: Bo Pugh on April 30, 2011, 08:58:39 pm when its summer time i hunt in tennis shoes, cause your feet are gonna get wet just about every time and they seem to dry out pretty fast and it is miserable wearing a sloshing pair of boots all day long
Title: Re: what kinda boots? Post by: tnhillbilly on April 30, 2011, 09:45:12 pm For comfort and water proof, rockys are good til you get them wet a few times then they fall apart at the soles, because they are glued not sewn. A pair of rockys wont last me 3 months, i go thru about 3 pair a year. But they are light, water proof, and comortable, just not durable.
I wouldnt recomend the red heads, they are not water proof, no gortex, and heavy, uncomfortable. I recomend danners, they are pricey, but water proof, comortable, and durable. easy to get on and off. you will wear out 2 pair of rockys to one pair of danners, so in reality theyre really not that expensive. Title: Re: what kinda boots? Post by: Bryant on April 30, 2011, 11:27:16 pm I have to agree with the Danner's. Google "Danner Sharptail Covey"
Title: Re: what kinda boots? Post by: firemedic on May 01, 2011, 04:20:15 pm Danner's hands down..no other boots I've ever had on my feet felt as good as Danners. They're cheaper in the long run too.....they'll outlast 3 or 4 sets of Rocky boots and they stay waterproof and have one hell of an ankle support.

X2 Title: Re: what kinda boots? Post by: Mike C. on May 02, 2011, 11:44:58 am Danners are the way to go,I wear my pair 6 days a week all day and sometimes all night long! I have bigger legs as well and they are very easy to put on and take off!
Title: Re: what kinda boots? Post by: Reuben on May 02, 2011, 11:56:52 am I like redhead snake boots they have a zip up and lace they come with a no leak 1 yr warranty at basspro Do these boots stand up to the water? I am wondering if the soles will come apart once they are wet a few times. I like the redhead for the added height compared to the Danners but haven't owned any of these. Title: Re: what kinda boots? Reuben - My redhead have held up good so far, and after the ankle area breaks in there like wearing a pair of running shoe's, i've had em for about a year .. Title: Re: what kinda boots? Title: Re: what kinda boots? Post by: tnhillbilly on May 02, 2011, 07:23:30 pm I have the danner pronghorns, they are 18" I think the red heads are 15" to 16" same with rockys.
You fellers wearin the red heads, you got the leather bottoms or the camo? I had the leather ones and they were real heavy and killed my feet. they were water proof for short periods but if you were in water or wet conditions long, they would eventually start leaking, and sweated my feet real bad. I absolutly loved the rockys rattler lace ups, all exept for durability. they say they guarantee them for a year, but that is only one pair. They may be alright down in the flat country, but they aint worth a dime up here in these mtns. I will have to say that i am extremely hard on boots. It aint nothin to walk run 10- 15 mi. a day up, down, rocks, creeks, bear huntin and the rockys and red heads just dont hold up. Guess just have to try different boots and see what works best for you, and the terrain you hunt in. I just got tired of runnin to bass pro every other month. Title: Re: what kinda boots? Post by: tnhillbilly on May 02, 2011, 07:28:15 pm If yall decide to go with the red heads or rockys, try and wait til they have them on sale, you can save bout $50. I used to wait and buy 2 pair at a time.
