Title: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: Indian Valley Ranch on April 30, 2011, 10:29:30 pm Lets honor our best catch dogs guys. The one's that are gone but not forgotten and the one's that are still getting it done. I'd like to hear from you guy's that are breeding catch dogs and have multiple generations, as well as anyone who got a show stopper from the pound or from Joe down the street. Your best CD's, ANY BREED, that has put rank hogs on the ground. They have a rough job, if you consider them your best, honor them here, Im sure they have earned it. Thanks, Britt
Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: Indian Valley Ranch on May 01, 2011, 12:15:22 am This is Bo Jack, the foundation male of my breeding program. He caught just about every hog we tied through the mid and late 90's until I started hunting his sons in Jan. of 2000. I would kill to have video of some of the stuff he did. It didn't matter how bad he was hurt or what condition he was in, he was still on the ear when you legged the hog. I am four generations down from him with my most recent breedings and the pups are still meeting my standards for a CD. Bo Jack was a 3/4 Hines bred AB. He will always be one of my favorites.

He had no help catching this one since the boar had really cut up our bay dogs before he arrived on the scene. It got real western in that root hole.

Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: Indian Valley Ranch on May 01, 2011, 01:13:54 am Thanks Tom, he was a big dog, 85 to 88 pounds in hunting condition, had wind for days and moved really well for his size. This is one of the last rank hogs he caught at about 9 yrs old. Big 270 pound Bar with no ears and some good cutters, as if that wasn't bad enough, we legged him in chest deep back water when the Neches River was flooded. This pic is from an ad I ran in the Sportsman magazine when I was running hunts. Paid a lot of money for them to spell my name wrong. They thought my name was Bill Garcia LOL. Turned out real nice, other than that minor detail. ;)

Not sure if im on the right path. Are you still getting dogs with that size?
Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: Indian Valley Ranch on May 01, 2011, 01:34:42 am Bo Jack held this boar until his 2 sons Hollywood and Jagger got there to give him a hand. It was their 1st woods hunt at 8 mths. Thankfully, that was all the schooling they needed, because ole dad spent a few days at the vet and another month on the side line after this one. We never missed a lick and luckily we didn't loose any teeth. Im smarter now, I wait till they are at least a year before I let them catch bad hogs.

Not sure if im on the right path. Are you still getting dogs with that size? Yes sir, I do still get some that size, The main stud I am using now isn't that big, probably because he is bred pretty tight on Bo Jack, but his pups seem to be around that size and are catching like hammers.Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: Indian Valley Ranch on May 01, 2011, 01:54:10 am This is me and Hollywood, the first Bojack son I raised. I hunted him hard from 2000 to 2007 and he put some good hogs in the truck for me. This was a good boar he caught on a hunt with Chris Burris (CB Hog Hobbles), his son Wade, and my bud Cullen Prince.

He got to go for a ride back to his breeders for a little service work that he seems to have enjoyed. Hopefully the gyp takes cause that's all that's left of those dogs.

INAB's, Reign was a looker, how was he bred? Ugly Dog, am I mistaken or did ya'll have Captain at the Chase Havard Benefit at Calloways several years ago. I remember meeting Thomas there and I do still have that issue of him and Captain on the cover. You dont see hogs like that one very often. Kevin, that pair looks like they could run a hog down if they had to. Good lookin dogs. Chris, I like the way those 2 female are built. Ole LC looked like she was ready for action. Mike, did you ever get any pups out of Clifford? Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: ironheadknls21 on May 01, 2011, 08:14:32 pm The little red dog (Rose) was the best cd i have ever owned by far...She caught alot of hogs and caught smart, she would be on the base of the left ear and standing side by side the hog every time..You could talk to her like a human and she seem to understand every thing you said..I hunted her til she was 6 and got out of hunting for a while and give to a good friend of mine, he hunted her 2 more years (and caught alot of hogs)..He retired at 8 and she got run over at 9....Sure wish i had another one like her...... Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: slick on May 01, 2011, 09:00:42 pm this was goose, he was a dane/pitXbullystag. not many in oz use a specialist cd and i was no exception he could find and hold em. if i was taking to long to get there he would step off and bark for me but hit up as soon as i arrived on the scene. he held alot of big boars one out. one of his tricks was to run next to a boar and hit them with his shoulder and when they turned to face him thats when he would grab an ear.

"Chico" Lost him at four years old to an ulcer. He was a real good catch dog, companion, and he LOVED kids. He had a very calm disposition. He caught hard but was easy to break off. Just lift on his collar and say "caught hog" and he'd let go. I used to break him off a hog with one hand while I was kneeling on it and then just let him go, never had to worry about keeping him off it once he was loose. He was good enough on a lead that I'd let my son lead him to the bay sometimes. I kept waiting to get pups off him thinking something would show up that I didn't like and then he got sick on us and died. I sure wish I'd done that differently. I've always heard there's a once in a lifetime dog, and he's mine. I will never have a dog as good as he is. I got him as a present for my wife the day her Mom passed away in 2002. A couple weeks later he got Parvo and my wife nursed him through it. Tried hard to make him a bay dog, but all he wanted to do was catch. For the past 7 years he's been my lead catch dog. I know there will be a day he's no longer hunting with me, but hopefully that's a long time from now because it's going to be hard to fill his collar out :) (http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo24/lyndeeboo/picsfeb07036.jpg) Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: Indian Valley Ranch on May 02, 2011, 09:15:20 pm [/quote] Britt, its been a good long time since we went to Calloways, but it was a good chance we had Captain with us, he was a good co-pilot on them road trips and went alot of places with us, had not used him in "any events" since 03/04, did you go to any them bulldog trials in Huntsville/Conroe with that BoJack back in those days? Then I was able to watch video of the comps from the early 90's and I wish I could have made some of them. I think he would have done well, all I will say is CD's have come a long way since those days. I did compete at 1 comp in Huntsville with my Hollywood dog back in 02 and took second behind a dog that caught on the back leg. Not a catch dog worthy of 1st place, JMO, wish I would have been able to go to more of them. About the same time, I was able to start hunting all the land that bordered our ranch which was loaded with hogs, I took advantage of being able to unsnap the dogs and hit the woods and catch hogs. By the time I had hunted it out, they had quit having those type of comps. Once again, thanks to all who are contributing to the thread. All good looking catch dogs Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: Indian Valley Ranch on May 02, 2011, 10:44:23 pm This is a video of Crash, I had given him to my friend Bo Lewis from Jasper TX as a pup. Bo will tell you he was the best he had ever hunted with and will never be replaced. He was a son of my Hollywood dog, and when he hit the ear, it was over, no shaking him off. He also sired about 6 litters and produced nothing but CD's. He was so much like his grandpa Bo Jack in many ways.

Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: Bryant on May 04, 2011, 11:28:32 am This is Zeus out of Uglydog's Captain. He's 1/2 AB X 1/2 Dogo. If memory serves me right I believe he's coming 7 years old. Caught more hogs than a catchdog should allowed. Straight 100% ear dog...breathes well...moves well...catches EXTREMELY hard and will stay caught all day (even on a dead hog) until he is removed. You can box him with anything and gets along with everyone. He set the bar awful high for me and I've been trying to raise a comparable dog without much luck for the last several years. He got a leg injury about a year ago that has slowed him down, but he's still in the game. Just has to have a little more time off between hunts these days.

He was a good dog. He went everywhere I went and I treated him like a buddy rather than a dog i talked to him like he was human and he knew what I was talking about most the time. I loved this dog. He turns 10 in June. Caught lots of hogs from a year to 5 years of age and then have only been able to hunt sporadically since but he caught some tough boars and gets along well with others, always right to the bay and we used to send from 300-400 yards out or farther so the 4wheelers didn't cause the hog to break, even found a few on his own while bay dogs were gone. Nice looking dogs everyone. Britt we still need to make some time to watch videos. I got my sister camera which is same as my old one and tapes don't work. Goose Title: Re: YOUR BEST OF THE BEST ( CATCH DOGS ) Post by: gary fuller on May 06, 2011, 12:36:29 pm nice topic britt, if i can figure out how to post pictures here i have a few i will contribute here. i can put em in emails but thats about it lol. for many years i never owned a catchdog and typically didnt hunt with one and caught some and shot some along the way. i have since come to enjoy and appreciate the true catchdog and have had the luck to own and hunt with some good ones. dont know for sure that i would have started using catchdogs if i hadnt gotten my first american bulldog basically as a watchdog/pet and then decided to try em on hogs after getting a few more ambulls.

I went through so many that just didn't have it but I think I have finally found a couple that qualify. My current CD hasn't been on hundreds of hogs yet but every one he has been on from the very beginning, he has done a great job. Hard hitting, intense and all heart. His name is Champ, he is still a young one and I hope to have him for a long time to come. I have to say that he won a place in my heart right from the start. That's why I named him Champ. :) Thanks Kenny ;)

Here are a few pictures of him.
