Title: STUPID GARMIN! UPDATE!
Post by: djhogdogger on May 06, 2011, 10:01:00 am
STUPID GARMIN! Messed up my hunt! Spent at least an hour looking for a dog in the worst briar thicket I have ever seen! We
thought maybe the dog was in serious trouble because on the garmin, he wasn't moving and we couldn't get him to respond.
So we went in to find him!  >:(  After hacking our way through the freakin congo, and now that I look like ive been sortin
bobcats! Just to find out that the STUPID GARMIN lied!  >:(  Then luckily James had a good idea which way the dog went so
we drove a ways and finally found him...thank GOD! By then it was late and we had to get home because James had to get up
at 4:30am to go to work. So on our way out, we drove past the next spot that we would have turned out and low and behold
there is a huge black boar with yellow spots that ran right in front of us! As to say "hahahaha SUCKERS!" Because we didn't
have time to let the dogs loose again! STUPID GARIMN!  >:(

Well I love him too much to allow him to drive all the way from Dayton to Pasdena half asleep and then work a twelve hour shift. But yes it is KILLING me that we had to leave a good hog. Not just a choat, a good hog!

Yea, we have already had it replaced once. The garmin is famous for what it did to us yestarday. Especially since the greenery is so dense now. He recalibrated it and then when we got closer to the dog it finally picked him up. If you use a garmin system, its going to happen, it just ticked me off because it ruined the hunt and then a big boar rubbed it in our faces! LOL  ;D So I had to vent a little.

Dinah, I don't think a hunt goes by that I don't cuss mine but, That boar just added insult to injury.

I hate it when I track to a dog that is supposedly bayed, get well within hearing but nothing. About the time I start thinking the worst, the Garmin unfreezes, showing the dang dog a half mile away!  >:(

I dont think that was the issue.... i believe that dog was just layed up taking it easy and trying to stay away from you, and when it heard you coming it hauled a$$ !!!!  ;D

I hear you. Same thing happened to me this morning. I had a dc30 and dc40 on the same dog cause I was wanting to see how they compared and couldn't pick up either one, after 200 yds. The 40 was showing her sitting in the same place so after about 10 min of calling her and her not moving we go in and she's not there. It had full gps signal but no connection. Long story short finally got her back almost 2 hrs later and it was starting to get warm so we called it. I wanted to chunk it. I've never went that long without signal.

Happened to me a few times too, showed a dog bayed, got within 50 yds, couldnt here anything. Thinkin they might be caught we are running trying to get to him, then all of a sudden poof, he shows .97 mi away.  >:(

Thats one reason mine dont get cut loose without radio collars too.  But most of the time i leave it in the truck, and just use it as a back up.

Honestly...I'm actually amazed that the thing works as well as it does. It's my experience that ANY electronic device can and will get in a bad mood now and then and foul up your day.....or in DJs case....your night.
