EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

Over the past few years, I have had an opportunity to meet a good amount of members off this site in person. I always welcome the idea of meeting new people.  I have a few contacts that I would consider talking to about arranging an ETHD weekend if you will. I would try to find a good amount of property with hotels and camping within close proximity. Keep in mind, this would be in Florida.  Before I go trying to call on some heavy favors, I want to find out if there is an interest. Basically, I am proposing you bring the hog dogs you want, you get here, you cover your own expenses (both travel and lodging), and you hunt and hang with other members on this site. I'm guessing some time between November and February. Please reply on this thread if it would be a good possibility in your mind. My zip is 32656 if you want to get an idea of travel time.

Hold up. Last November Chance had his wife to keep him company. He even had all 3 kids just in case Crystal got mad at him. Poor BoarNinja (Alan) was all by himself. He got so lonely, that he literally slept on the floor with Meangirl the last night here.  I felt really bad for him. I can't let him go through all that again, so out of the goodness of my heart, I hereby name Alan as our newcommer's roomie.  :angel:

I just looked it up on Google earth and the whole place ain't but about yay big ;) its no wonder the Florida dudes get along better than we Texans, they can't have more than 5000 acres to the whole state :o :D

Cutter, I'm in depending on dates.  Novemeber and December holiday months are horrible for me being in the Transportation Industry.  If it's Jan or Feb I'm in for sure.  I can help anyone out that needs a ride as well.

Honestly fellows, I have no intentions of participating in the hog dog competitions.  I am simply just wanting to meet some great folks who share common interests.  Those that are on this site, tend to get to know eachother, and consider them friends.  If you choose to bring some dogs to justify your trip, so be it.  If you just wish to come and tag along with some great company, that is fine by me as well.  There are some of the people on here that litterally hunt for a living, while others just simply hunt when they find time to "relax".  I am closer to the later than the first option.  At the moment I am still working on trying to get a property to have for all of us to use.  It is in the early stages, so I'm not commiting to anything yet.  I wanted to make sure there was an interest.  It seems like we could easily get 20 people that are willing to make a vacation out of it.  That suits me fine.  We are not looking to have any conflicts, just a good ol' family style get together.  If we can get some swine caught, it will be a bonus.  That's my intentions anyway.   ;)

With the price of fuel these days, it would be nice to see a good sized caravan of Texans coming picking up folks along the way.  It sure would be cool to have a big group just "relaxing".  I will have my dogs there if we can get it all worked out.  Someone will have to catch the sows, so why not me.   ;D

That's pretty much what the ETHD Rooter Roundup is/was....  check the egos at the gate, then come on in and have a good time.  BBQ/Hunt/BS... We probably had between 40-60 people, with ~160,000 acres of forest to hunt. Could have had the same quality hunt on 1/10 of that land. I think for all involved it was more about the fellowship, than the actual hunt.

I have to tell you when Chance's family and the Ninja came we had a blast.  We did not catch too many hogs, but we sure enjoyed ourselves while we tried.  To me that is what is all about.  I would really like to meet a lot of these members in person, and get a chance to shake their hands.  I really hope some of the folks bring their kids so I can get to meet them as well.  I look forward to a good "Family" hunt.  I'm pretty sure most of the folks on here have hunted with some good dogs before, but it will be nice to see some of them in person off of this site. 

I'd be more than happy to bring a load of people in my truck.  I'd be interested in bringing some dogs too though.  I'm all for the hunting, the beer can be after the hunt for me!  

Not sure if we'd be allowed to hunt public land.  Chance's yella dogs really messed up the ecosystem down here.  All those dillars they caught were actually helping the environment, and we did not even know it.   ;D

Cutter if you get this hunt done, I will do whatever I can to help out.  We could have a big ole cookout  ;D

The big problem with public land would be hunting licenses which you would need on private land.

Since Chance and JP say they may come, I figure we could have some different events to show off our talents in.  An ETHD Spelling Bee is a must.  I can't wait for that event in particular.  I figure we'll also have a dog washing event.  We can use my dogs for the models.  Heck, we'll even have a roping contest.  My money is on Rowdy or Cattle.  When it comes to the hog tying event, We'll use those 2 for the models.  John says they can be tied good.   8)

Heck I just want to come meet  everyone and listen to all the stories. the hunting is just a plus so it doesn't make a difference to me.

Yes, anyone over 16 will have to buy a hunting license and management area stamp.

Management area permit $26.50 good for 1 year from date of activation.

Non-resident 10 day hunting license $46.50.

It applies to those that are "hunting".  There is a lot of "grey", but that is normal with laws. As long as everyone is cool, the officiers usually understand what is going on.

just went through all the southern zone and half way through the South west zone and all i can find is permitted during general gun season.  But ill keep looking. thanks for the help.  And i mean that in the nicest way possible  :angel:  ;)

Depending on dates I might make it. I am down with riding with someone, if there is anyone going from the Waco area, or we can take my rig. I can sleep 2-3 and have a big ole truck with lots of leg room.

Our wma's are only open to dog huntin during the general gun season. There are a few however that have hog dog hunts thrue small game season. And a few that have special hog dog hunts directly after general gun ends. Hope that helps ya

So nice of you to help someone out.  But on the other hand if "you do" it may be occupationaly hazardous for me to be there when it takes place.  Oh and checked with FWC, both the lakeland office and Tampa office and neither officer had any clue as to any place that you cold run dogs for hogs without it being a quota hunt.  Me personally im not running my dogs on public land during gun season.

Guess you haven't done enough research. You can hunt Mallory swamp, Hickory Mound, Osceola National Forest, Ocala National Forest, and Lower Suwanee NWR (not 100% positive on this one) without quotas

Got to be a brave man to hunt the Ocala National Forest  ;D  There are some things out there, you are not suppose to see.  lol

John i checked mallory, hickory mound they both have hog dog quota hunts where there is only like 150 given out then each quota is allowed 3 helpers.  I havent seen one that issues "day quotas" but ill check the rest,  ive pretty much gone through the southern and central zones.  Ill keep looking though.  Oh the other one i found was Holey Land but its only during general gun-vehicle season.  they do issue day quotas if i remember right.
