Ninja, I am 3 weeks into a 6 week hitch, does that tell you anything? I am halfway through, and getting RESTLESS.. You still on the Ironhorse? I talked to Maurice, and he has no idea who is out there anymore. We did get word that this is his last hitch in Nigeria, hopefully!

Tiny I have bounced around out here for the past 10 days and now I'm back on the Iron Horse. I like it on this thing!

Ninja, Maurice and I did the math the other day, he has been home a total of 30 days since Christmas last year... 6 week hitches are nothin lol there have been more 6 weeks gone, 3 days home, 7 weeks gone 7 days home... Ect.... It's getting old for sure. Can't wait for a certain president to get the h*ll out of the white house so the oilfield can go back to normal...

I been on this graveyard for a while now, 12 hrs a day 7 days week, we finally starting to slow down a little, had the past couple weekends off. It was real nice but all i wanted to do was sleep.
 This new phone is better suited for internet hog huntin, than my old one. ;D But i still cant type worth a dang on it.

 

Night shift on a plant turnaround.... BORED! Been at it 12 hrs a day since June 20th. Atleat i will be able to get the new 320 now  ;D

Looks like its me and you peach. I have hunted once in 3 weeks and it was to see a dog for sale.... picked him up too (a damned ole spotted dog). Got a 30lb'er and couldnt iron it out on a bigun. This OT is fillin the wallet and killin the huntin... I am new to the sport as of 6 months ago and already having withdrawals.

I'm gonna shoot for bout Feb.

Feb we are going to hit some of my public land spots. I still hunt and scout till dog season opens feb 1st. Just bring one less bottle of DR.Enuff. That stuff was good but strong... Gave me the jitters

Lol. I tried to get the guys to tie lures on the sub but they wouldn't go for it.
These offshore country boys get pretty creative when it comes to fishing lures out here. I've seen huge fish caught on lures made from grinding shields, broom sticks, ear plugs, and kitchen spoons to name a few.

as far as why i am on this late is because for the third straight night we have been battling fires up here and i figured i'd hop on here and relax for a min or two

i have 1 week off, i haven't been huntin either do 2 the dry conditions, and i don't have 2 be at work at 4 am. so all i do is stay up late and look at pics of dogs /hogs. and read storys posted on here.

I got a kemmer pup from dee and he aint afraid of water. His idea of a good time is to waller in his water bowl. Which means he "would be" left with black water or no water. So my fix is get him a tub and let him drink black water.

I got a lep cat, first thing he does when he is done with his food.... Cocks his leg and pisses in his food bowl. To fix that I am building stand to lift the bowl out of pissin range  :D

i ended up gettin a kiddy pool for my dogs, i also got he wall hanger food bins they are really good id recommend them, i just hung mine to a tree and there ya go

Just finished building a front porch and I have alot of wood to use up. Other wise I would buy a wall hanger or a stand

I feel the same blacksmith. I am on day 24 of a 14 day outage. I think they under estimated the length of this turnaround... This old dinosaur of a plant dont want to run with all of this new equipment we put in.

Im gonna eventually go to the 320 bUT my 220 is still working just fine.
SC, I find that my Garmin works just as good or better in these mtns  as it does in the flat country.
As far as hearing some hounds, bear training season is only weeks away, and im ready.

so what would you recommend? sell the classic to get a 320?

I would keep the tracker and buy the Garmin, I never turn mine loose without both radio and Garmin, just in case something Goes wrong with the Garmin you can still track to your dogs

yea thats why i use the radio, just seemed to work better but also we had short range dogs so we just used bells like old coon hunters would do

Thing is crabs and crawfish aint in season in Feb. Im sure someone can atleast get some fried aligator, boudin, hog head etouffe, gumbo... someone will fix you up. Hell if you can pay me when i get there i will bring you some crabs from a local store

Now your talkin, you have to tell me how to fix em, when we lived in Lewisville, dad and one of his buddy's went down to Cameron bay and caught a bunch AMD fixed them, bUT they done somethin wrong cause we all got sick as dogs.you think they would keep?  How much, and what about crawfish?  Man you got my mouth watering.
Talked to that feller, he still got a few pups, just have to figure out how to get it from east TX to baton rouge.

about $35-$40 for crawfish, but they wont be good after the drive. Crabs are $10-$20 a dozen depending on size. I will also have to get you some Zatarans crab boil too. I would need to know how many dozen you would need to give you a recipe.

As far as the pup goes I will travel an hour and a half to 2 hrs to meet him, I would go further but I am slammed with alot of stuff since we are heading your way next friday... See if he can meet around Laffayette or Crowley.

That is both for raw... I can get boiled and it will make it and you wont have to worry about cooking it. Prices go up for boiled but plan on a bout 5lbs per person for crawfish or 1/2 dozen crabs per person... or you could choose some jumbo boiled shrimp  ;D

The shrimp get my vote.  I have hauled an ice chest of shrimp north many of times.  They travel well and are my favorite choice of the three.

I am a certified CNC technician. I take raw castings and cut them out to make pump motor housings for commercial lawnmowers and other machines. Hydraulic pump motor housings.

Well I ain't workin but I am a night owl. Guess it's the late nights I got used to while on the sand box. But just got home an hour or so ago from a buddy's house havin a few beers and talinkin out our plans for our hunt tomarrow night. Well if all goes as planned our hunt will go great. FOr three nights I've been seeing a big grouP of hog in the same place on my ranch and come tomorrow night the dogs will be on the ground and we should have a few hogs down by mornin. So here's to pre-planning. Hopefully y'all will se some posts in the dogs n hogs come Saturday mornin from me.

I rotate nites and days 5 to 5. Dont think I could do only graveyards

Was on days for 19 straight, nights for the past 6. This was my first overtime of the year. The rest was 4-10's.

Oh and i volunteered for nights... dumb move on my part

first night back...working 7 - 13 hr shifts and then off 7 days. work days and then nights. I am the safety man/permit writer for a rig in the middle of the woods. I saw about 15-20 pigs before dark. That is about average and once I saw about 90 pigs in about 10 minutes out here.

I used to hog hunt in this area as a youngster... :)

That shift dont sound too bad, Reuben. I'd have to bring my dogs to work with me.

I do a little programing but im not a programmer, been at it 7 yrs.  Ive ran lathes, mill, grinders, just about everything in the plant, and its a LARGE plant. Parker hannifin used to be trw yrs ago.
I would like to find somewhere theres plenty of hogs, and make on 40 hrs what im makin or close to in 70-80hrs.

Tom, I do like this shift. Our office is a wide trailer with Satallite, big screed tv and internet, 2 full bed rooms and 2 and a half bath. It is just like home away from home and it is only 15 minutes from my house. :)

It's a real hard job but someone has to do it...  :'( ;D

The last operator we hired started at 15 hr with no programing and very little setup exp we work about 45 to 50 hrs a week but Oklahoma has a very low cost of living Which helps alot  it's a small town if you go to the city they pay around 18 20 for operator but wecare in a small town

Im makin 21 now. Love small town tho, want as far away from city as possible. I appreciate it tho.

Job shops and internal plant shops here in the south pay 25-30.

Ive had the last 3 weekends off, which is normal this time of year. Water pump went out on my truck so had to replace it today.

Just training, no guns. We get a 4 day kill season in Nov, and a 14 day season in Dec.

I'm sorry to hear about the fires to. I got the event coordinator at work setting up donation bins. They will be in route at the end of the month from baton rouge to houston when I go to houston for a training class

its been bad at work, we had a bad rain storm and the drainage got clogged outside and some of the robots decided they wanted to swim in the dock, they even told me i was to mop it up i just laughed and sat on the stairs and watched

Well I didn't get any bear pics, turned out 4 truck load of dogs, dogs ended up on 2 different bears, and neither one wanted to tree.
   Ole Pete and another plott stayed with one for 7 hrs. Bout barked out, they barked enough to let me know they were still with it. Praying it was treed, I eased off the top of the mtn to them, got within 30 yrds. and he got up and started walking again. Never layed eyes on him. Dogs finally got tired and quit.
    And I was glad of it, cause I was a loooooooong way from anywhere and after working all night and about 6 mi of climbing and crawling up and down those mtn. I was ready to call it a day.
   

i bet it was still fun, im hopin one day i could get there and witness it

ive been here since 12 noon yesterday, gonna need some pep talk to keep me movin, glad im not the only one here lol

Not a bear pic but one I snapped on top of the mtn just off the Appalachian trail waiting on the bear. He came within 170 yrds and turned hard left and crossed out. I tried to cut him off, but missed him by 70 yrds.

safety man and permit writer on a rig in the middle of the woods with giant oak trees all around me...hogs come out every evening and night to graze on the bermuda grass I irrigate with the fire monitors every once in a while.

The big boars stay away but they showed up here about 2 weeks ago for a few days because the sows were in heat. I counted over 90 pigs one afternoon...

How is everyones hunting going? Dry runs here lately but I have a decent place to hunt for a that we usually do good on lined up for friday and a new place to hit saturday that is supposedly loaded, but you know how that goes

    I sold my cur dogs, for lack of anywhere to hunt, and thought I can just run hogs with my plotts too. But ole Pete is turning into such a good bear dog, he more than likely wont run anymore hogs. But of course after I sold them I found a couple spots. And for some reason, everybody dont like to run hounds.   ;D

My friend has one that is identical in build to her. And man it amazes me at how quick and fast she is. When I decide to get one it will be nice and leggy like that. I keep trying to get my buddy to try her as a catch dog but she is just a pet so his wife threatens us both when we discuss it. :D lol

well fellas i had a eventful night, since my knee was worked on ive been on some advil and hobble like a old man. So last night as i was checking the mail a 20 pound coon decided to jump out of the trash bin and jump my henry dog. long story short i stumbled (literally) for a hour as he fought this thing in the woods, ended up a quarter mile in the woods from my house, and he acutally came out on top ;)

im proud of my little dog! :P

Well im back, got all my dogs delivered and picked up and back to work.

She didnt at all she needs to n a pen so she dont learn the hard way n the woods. My friend has a pretty small pen. I think it helps them learn the bad end of a hog and how to move around. Some ppl might not agree but jmo

We have training season, and kill season. I hunt Nc and Tn both. And with all the seasons combined we can run dogs from end of August til 1st of Jan.

I take 4-6 dogs with me, but most everybody else brings 6-8. Not uncommon to have 20 dogs under a tree.

im still hopin to make a trip for a bear run, even if its just a run and pullin the dogs off. just wanna say ive been there lol

I was catchin a limit just about everynite that i fished. Along with a few reds here and there. The job has its benefis so to speak but id much rather go home everynite.  Cause i like to hunt way more than fish lol ;D

Heck im just thankful to have a job! Its been slow for our boat we aint been offshore too much due to no wk for the boat for whatever reasons.

I thought about gettin a job in the oil field, and moving to tx, but Im dang near 40, and not sure I could handle an entry level position with 80-90 hrs a week. Ive been kind of spoiled the last 8 yrs. But im always lookin for something better.  Got my CDL's but aint had to use them in a while.

Im an engineer on a crewboat. We do take our fishin pretty serious tho lol! Tiny i would like to hear some more details and what not.

Depends, 7mm is too much gun up here. Most arhound here use 30-30.  I would suggest 308. Seems your lookin at smaller cal. The 308 would probly give you what your lookin for. Unless you lookin for somethin real fancy, you can catch the savages on sale at walMart for bout $300.

Doin pretty good were gonna head offshore at midnite..... Me personally if i was gonna get a 7mm i like the 7mm STW jmo.

.308 is a great caliber...If you want long range flat shooting the 25-06 or 270 aren't bad at all.

im just lookin for a all around rifle, everything from squirrels to yotes

308 is a bit much for squirrel.   ;D check out those rossie rifles with enterchangeable barrels,  you can get barrels in most caliber. Only takes a few seconds to change them and they are very affordable.

Im in,  had a good race sat, ole Pete and Smokey worked their magic. 5 out of 6 of my dogs were at the tree. One of the 5 was 7 months old.

The brands worked better this time, I used a goat stand, duct tape, and a strap or two and had the wife help me.
   Got a little video of Pete and Smokey, in the dogs on hogs section.

Congrats video looked great! What did you use to brand youre dogs dry ice and alchol or dry ice and acetone?

Liquid nitrogen, but dry ice and alcohol works good too. That plott on the tree is that Pete dog.

You can get it at a welding shop, but you have to have a special container, and they aint cheap. But ask around, you might be able to rent or borrow one.

Thanks I hope she works out. Both parents are used on all the big game. I might have to get a few tips from you to do a little cross training on bear. It'd be cool to take her once a year and try to tree some bear. :)

I raised 2 litters of redbone X mtn cur, jam up dual purpose hog and bear dogs.

Good lookin dog, I aint no expert, but ill help you what I can.

Its alot harder to train a bear dog, but thats where I would start, like training a coon dog.  Get you a coon and spray it with a good bear scent. Getting them to tree is the hardest part for me. If they will tree just keep pouring them on bear tracks.

not like you can just let a bear go and expect it to tree, i can see how i would train for bear

If ya'll ever get a chance you have to eat at RIOZ, its. Brazilian restaurant, pretty pricey but man it was delicious.
   We eat at hooks Calabash, sea food buffet, night before, and it was great too.

I don't work night shift, but I'm always worried about matt workin so late at night (I know im a worry wart!)...naturally I'll be worried about all of my new friends on here that work at night as well...be careful, and don't drive if you are too tired :)

PastryGirl, I understand your pain! Maurice works the midnight to noon shift offshore, so not only do I worry about him being tired while out on a rig, but that's also the only time that I can talk to him for weeks at a time. It gets frustrating for sure.

I know oil rigs can be so dangerous as well so I'll keep Maurice in my "safekeeping" prayers! I admire your strength for being able to talk to him so little.. Just a couple more pics I took at the beach. The girls had a blast.
They were having some kind of bike rally that weekend so there were Harleys everywhere.
   The weather was nice, got kinda chilly Sat night.
  We took the girls to alligator alley, kinda like a little zoo, with alligators and crocs from all over the world, with snakes, turtles and a couple monkeys.
   All went well except for the speeding ticket I got on the way back.
   Got home bout 6:30 and now im at work, but glad to be home, the girls didn't want to leave.
  Time to tree some bears.

Not yet, im so run down I honestly aint felt like even hunting, dont know if its just old age or what. My neck, back, knee, head, heel...... are hurting all the time and extremely fatigued all the time. Just assume it comes with age so I just been dealing with it.
Nc kill season opens Oct 18 so ill be burning the woods up from then til the first of the year, LORD willin.
    Probly go a few more times to keep the dogs tuned up, but we usually slow way down couple weeks before season opens to let them settle.

i heard that, this new job i got will help my knees since ill be puttin mahinery and equipment for surgery together

ive still got 6 days of PTO i can take but if my truck dont act right i cant drive anywhere let alone make a trip down

About 6 years ago i had a chance to hunt in ohio with a guy i commercial fished. His mom lived up there sure wish i would have went! Guess im just gonna have a fish fry when i get home seein how i havent put ne feed in the feeders or set up stands lol  ;D

What do all ya'll do for a living that keeps you at work all night, im a welding inspector myself, got layed off last thursday from ENGlobal and they called and offered me a job as construction manager on nights at the Pandora Methanol proect here in beaumont........So far i've been managin myself, haven't seen a single employee yet lol

i send equipment and random junk out through the hospital here at the cleveland clinic and i accepted a new job in sterile processing where ill be cleaning and assembling things used in surgery

gotcha, I don't know how long i'll be on nights, may last 3 days 3 weeks r 3 months, on a good note tho I spoke with my big boss before agreein to take this position and he told me I can sneak out around 4:30 in the mornins to make it to a deer stand........REALLY helps out that one of my closest friends and the guy who got me into hog doggin just happens to be my big bosses nephew, I used to drink beer and party with my boss before I even realized that I worked at the same company as he did, I put in for a transfer to a different division and was accepted, next thing I know I've got my buddies uncle as my boss........small small world!

that is a blessing and a curse lol

my girlfriends father got me my job here, figured if i was to be with his daughter i better have a jam up job  :P

sc, I been there and done that, finally got my sh!t together sounds like about the same time you did. gotta start somewhere.........hell I can't remember the last time I only had 1 dog, I've got 3 yellow labs, a dogo (might as well call him damnit), 2 cur/pit crosses that pretty much came with the house that I just bought (they had taken up residence under the house until I moved in, now they sleep on my front porch in my dang chairs lol.........guess I can't blaim em, chair cushions gotta be more comfortable that dirt) a blue pit female and a walker dog and while I was gone on my last job I had to turn down 2 jagd pups that I really wanted from muddogkennels, but when I got home my old lady thought she would go ahead and get em for me, so I now have 2 7wk old jagd pups as well. so I think the count is 10 right now all together, give or take 1 r 2 lol

yea when i sold out and moved i wasnt myself and as i settled down up here some lady was kind enough to give me my henry dog for free and hes made my life alittle easier

the plant is creepy as hell tonight, I just made a walk thru as I usually do but they have 0 power in the plant right now, its dark as a coal miners butt crack in the unit.............why haven't they made a horror movie with monsters terrorizin people in a chemical plant yet? I've been in plenty of dark places but something about these abandoned buildings and laydown yards and units gives me the heebie jeebies in the dark........im good all night long in the woods without a light but these places are flat out creepy

when i got the iphone they asked me if i wanted a case for it, i said not just yes but HELL YES i want the biggest baddest yall got. Im rough on phones and can normally find a way to break em. I got a big bulky griffin case and ill say this, it is gonna take a tank to break this phone, I have literally thrown it 50yards across a field to a buddy while dove hunting and dropped it more times than i can count, its also been to the bottom of my bosses pool and so far so good!

i had one smart phone bout 3 years ago, first of its kind, my buddy worked at sprint so he got it for me for xmas, it was decent and had an app called titan XS that let me track other peoples phones, just type the number and your off it tells you everywhere they went within the past 90 minutes  >:D :angel:

well i am up so i figure i would chime in on the night shift thread... went and made a round with mike tonight and made it through the night with no mishaps and no hogs. The highlight was my trashy gsp baying a diller and then chasing down a skunk and getting spayed, this was about 50 feet from the trucks as we were trying to leave. rolleyes

A lot depends on the dog too, smarts, and style. Had dogs that would kill a Cooney in seconds, and some that would get eat up tryin.

well thats what i was thinkin but the big game houndsmen site is sayin a coon is, now ive seen a coon rip a dogs throat out, ive also seen a 25 pound dog kill a coon "one out"  ;)

bob cats are fragile really, one bite and its night night, i think yotes are really a handful, my big bulldog caught one once and took almost a hour to finally kill it

im here, 3 hours of sleep from tryin to fix my truck, 70 bucks and two busted knuckles later its runnin... barely...

eh shes old but shes faithful, it was just the idler pulley, some nut buster spray and a locking wrench with some coaxing and she let me have it easily  ;D

I don't know about you but when it comes to workin on a vehicle "easily" is not a word I believe i've ever used to describe the situation at hand  ;D

well im no master mechanic by no means but swappin out a pulley is relative easy compared to other things ive done  ;D

i think workin on older trucks is alot easier than the new ones, to many electronics and stuff that goes into it, i can start at 7 am and do a swap in a day and roll out at 9pm and run it like its stolen, but not with a newer car, it takes almost a week lol :laugh:

I completely agree with older vehicles bein easier to work on.........thats a fact, they put so much unnecessary nonsense on the new ones

lol don't blame you one bit, I've got an 08 ram megacab dually 3500 4x4, I started lookin into deletes and all that good stuff, I quickly decided to bring it to the shop..........a little extra out of my pocket was worth the piece of mind, now she is sittin 6''s higher on 37's with the egr valve and dpf filters deleted and i got warranties on every bit of it! worth the extra money to me, the guys that did my lift are top notch, if my truck goes down due to suspension they tow if back to their shop for free!

dang that sounds real nice, i bought a jeep for $300 and lifted it myself with springs from a bus  rolleyes and wooden blocks on the axels.

must be nice  :P ive never owned anything older than a 96 and that was a honda civic. i had a 83 chevy with 49k original miles and only paid 500 for it, still got it too ;D

I love the truck and the note is not too bad, My last truck was an 07' quad cab hemi 4x4 I bought new off the lot, It took an act of God for me not to loose my ass on that truck when I went to trade it in,  after that experience I am done buying new trucks! used is the way to go, I got my new one with 50k on it and they offered me a 4yr 80k warranty.........hell on my last one I only got a 5yr 100k warranty on it and it was brand new ???............o well, I love my truck but sometimes I wish I still had my old 92' f150.......the note was a HELL of alot better due to the fact that I payed 3200 cash for it lol!

Finally got a chance to check in. Its been a busy week on this machine. One more night and I'll be off for a couple days. Hopefully I'll get to go bow hunting a little. Killed a doe the other eve.

Doin alright, work as usual. Gettin ready for opening day of nc bear season next monday. Got a big mean one found.

well we found a place to make a hunt friday nite. worked snake in the pen and he did okay so i decided to hunt him on friday nite. there was cows there so i decided to just walk him. well got him on two hogs in the woods and he did way better in the woods than in the pen!

Did he bay any or just catch? I think I hunted him around some cows one night and he didn't bother them, but better be safe than sorry.

iIn the woods there was no barking he was caught on the ear in the woods both times and i mean HARD!!! ;D  >:D   he is getting well adjusted with the other dogs and started acting like he wanted to get off the leash and go hunt. really like his handle to

We kinda been giving them a rest til season opens. We spent all day sat clearing trails. I Don't know how many mi we ended up cutting but I was whooped by the time we got out.

yes sir will do.  just a few liitle things but nothing major at all, she got really ruff in the bay pen this time she only barked a few times and the rest she was trying to catch. she got on his hind end pretty good once so looks like she is gonna b ruff as heck. just needs some kinda of handle and im workin on that hopefully ill b getting a land job again soon.

She is a little funny, she don't like being handled much.

   All dogs are doin fine 99.9% sure spider is bred, not that sure about queen, but its possible. Not sure about the plott yet either.

Nope, never had one. I had a pit that I bred a couple times before she took tho, so im hoping.   Its possible she might be, but I just cant see enough to say.

the weather hold out on you over the weekend, shoot i took the dog out for a good hike throught the woods, he dug out a chipmunk and treed at a squirrel, dipped him in the river and had a good ol time, ive been thinkin of adding another addition to the dog family so im lookin for somethin around a mt cur

I will have to look at her papers, im thinkin about 10 months. If it was up to me, which it should be since I bought her for a hog dog, I wouldn't think twice about it. But for some reason my wife wants to keep her for a squirrel dog.  I will ask her tho, she mentioned something about selling her, but might have changed her mind.

im sure if she wants to sell her we will talk about it, gives me a good reason to come down to see how the dogs work  ;) ;D
