Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Purebreedcolt on July 12, 2011, 10:26:01 am Yeah I went to school with robert and krystal. Aught to be interesting to say the least. After seeing the last few vehicles they have had I can only admagine what this one will be like we used to see one and say well there goes the campbellmobille lol.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: slimhogdog on July 12, 2011, 10:27:01 am Does anyone know this Campbell family? LOL, it says in the article they are legendary.........that right there scares me!!! ;) Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: T-Bob Parker on July 12, 2011, 11:48:20 am Why is America obsessed with us rednecks?
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: tmatt on July 12, 2011, 02:26:51 pm Can you describe the campbellmobile for us please?

Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Purebreedcolt on July 12, 2011, 02:35:27 pm Picture hogs dogs and a mule all in the back of a truck plus icechests and a place to set and a tool box
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: tmatt on July 12, 2011, 02:38:36 pm Ok, now I really wonder what this custom off-road jeep looks like. If you went to school with both of them, I am assuming, since there is five years difference between the two that you were between the two in age or was the older one a little slow8
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Purebreedcolt on July 12, 2011, 02:39:01 pm Anyone else on here know if they still have any dogs that go back to their old nelle dog?
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: tmatt on July 12, 2011, 02:40:40 pm Are you talking a kawasaki mule or an animal mule? It kinda changes the picture, but I can imagine both. Lol
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Purebreedcolt on July 12, 2011, 02:49:17 pm Animal
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: tmatt on July 12, 2011, 02:56:03 pm I see, I can only imagine what people are gonna be saying about Texas after this show airs! Did they at least catch pigs and have decent dogs?
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Purebreedcolt on July 12, 2011, 03:13:13 pm I am going to have to say no comment have to wait and see. Back then they had some decent cat dogs and so maybe so.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: ole shep on July 12, 2011, 04:49:53 pm Where are they from ? I live in Belton. Heart of Texas? Waco? Where did you go to school Purebreedcolt?
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Purebreedcolt on July 12, 2011, 04:51:48 pm Kinda ashamed but early high school. Lol true heart of texas is brady lol
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: uglydog on July 12, 2011, 05:07:57 pm WHY are so many of the hog hunting women named Crystal/Krystal ?
Why if they are legendary has no one in the hog hunting community heard of them? Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: cantexduck on July 12, 2011, 05:11:35 pm Isn't bare foot bob a running buddy of theirs? A guy that is a contractor for a customer knows them well.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Purebreedcolt on July 12, 2011, 05:17:00 pm There are several on here that know them cwhite does think jp does and some others most through cat hunting though. His famous stuff comes when he tried to be a movie star and was also in some hunting shows way back when. I aint sticking up or down gradeing them just saying I know them and spent some time out there. Robert and jerry are good guys krystal is a handfull lol. robert was a hoot back in high school though.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: firemedic on July 12, 2011, 05:50:08 pm Well Colt,......are we gonna laugh at them...or roll our eyes and say...."Good Lord where do they find these people?"
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: cwhite_25 on July 12, 2011, 09:34:47 pm Know them very well...Jerry and my dad were running hounds since back in the 80's. Say want you want about him but in my opion when you talk about great old school houndsmen in Tx he is in the mix with the bob ramseys, bare foot bobs, Captin Bob Snow, Phil lynes, roy hynes, doug masons..etc. Ran Walkers off horseback alot back then. Was def the good ol days. Is very old school and full of bs sometimes in a funny way. This show is going to be a 360 I think. There will be some corny stuff but thats holleywood. Runs cat dogs as well. Also crystal is not one who sits back. She is down to catch and tie some pigs. You can see her write ups in Bayed solid Mag.... Should be funny to watch.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Purebreedcolt on July 12, 2011, 09:52:21 pm I think it will be entertaining and it should be relatively real it will be hard for me to judge since I know them I their dogs aught to be more to yalls liking that is for sure.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: WestTexasCurs on July 12, 2011, 10:04:42 pm I hunted with Jerry some when I was around 14 or so.He came up here and hunted the Sloan ranch, where I was working. He had running hounds and a little black wire haired terrier, that would flat go find one.We had lots of fun,and drank lots of Lone Star. ;D
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: matt_aggie04 on July 12, 2011, 10:14:29 pm I have a OLD VHS tape where a guy goes and shoots a hog with his bow over Jerrys dogs. The host of the show flies in to Brownwood and then goes and meets up with Jerry. They up with a nice hog, hunt off of horse back, and it has some nice hound footage. Jerry was a grizzly adams looking man with a deep gruff voice and a big beard to match. He told a story/poem about the devil coming to Texas if I remember correctly and hes drinking a lone star beer while telling that poem. I look forward to seeing the show.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Critter Catcher on July 12, 2011, 10:29:20 pm there sure seems to be a lot of interest in hog doggin lately..I hope this turns out good and not a slap in the face of all hog doggers..not just this show but all the recent shows coming on the boob tube..
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: uglydog on July 13, 2011, 09:09:25 am well good, I hope that it is a good show and I guess they have been heard of and I retract my statement with appologies.
They must be real hunters and not legendary in the internet circles where I do all my hunting ;) Hope This Crystal does better than that Krystle on Discovery channel. Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Purebreedcolt on July 13, 2011, 09:30:03 am Lol she is pretty cute and if she is still as firary as she used to be aught to be interesting
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: tobyb2007 on July 13, 2011, 09:37:43 am I was roommates with robert a couple years ago in college and he is a good guy. But I have never hunted with him or behind his dogs so can't say nothing about that aspect of it.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: graydog on July 13, 2011, 11:34:07 am Jerry had a website for a while. Primarily focused on cat hunting as I remember. I believe that he hunted in West Texas and NM. Think he was tied in for a while with Joe Bramond from the South Texas ranching family. The Bramond family has a lot of land and is noted for having dogs for just about any kind of hunting you can think of. They used to have a large number of hog dogs. Don't know much about their breeding. Know a few guys that have dealt with them and said they had some good dogs. I was told that they culled hard. Campbell's hog dogs could be tied to theirs. The photos I have seen of Jerry kind of made me think of old Cowboy Williams and he was a character!
Hopefully it will be a better show than the last one. I've got family in Louisiana. Gonna take some Great Danes over there and catch gators. Gonna call the show Swamp People Meets Hogs Gone Wild! Will train the dogs to only catch the BIG gators. Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: treeingratterrier on July 13, 2011, 10:15:32 pm He used to Write a Full Cry article every month in the 80's. Thinking he was on a big ranch full of bobcat and russian hogs in Brownwood guiding, lost track of him for a while, good to hear he is doing something with a mule too, wonder what kind of dogs they are using nowdays??? There used to lots of people with hog hunting mules down here at one time but I have not seen one in ages in the back of a truck being hauled with the dogs. What was that hound hog dogger that used to be guiding on that big game ranch at Kerrville?? I cant think of the name, it went broke and got some of it sold off, was that the Y.O.???? Seemed like that guy and Jerry were hunting together at one time.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: TeJaShOgSlAyER on July 14, 2011, 08:04:40 pm I know these campbells I live here in brownwood tx where they are from! They are some real characters mule dogs all kinds of stuff in the bed of the truck and an American flag painted S10 pickup! Real characters folks!

Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: T-Bob Parker on July 14, 2011, 09:36:38 pm Can't think of the name to save my life, but there's a hog hunting DVD by some outdoor channel host from several years back where he likes to line em up and shoot 2 &3 at a time and he had one little doggin section in south Texas with some texicans and one east Texas hunt with some big ole fella and his kids. All I remember is a couple b&t cats and a dog named smoke. Anybody know what im talking about? Seems I remember their name being Campbell .
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: treeingratterrier on July 15, 2011, 09:57:52 am Also announced was Boar Hunters, in which patriarch Jerry Campbell, "level-headed" son Robert and "firecracker" daughter Krystal help farmers and others who have problems with feral hogs. The Campbells run Campbell's Homeplace Ranch, which is based in Brownwood and has a clientele that has included Sam Elliott and President George H.W. Bush. And Krystal Campbell is a former Miss Brownwood.

Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Chelcee on August 08, 2011, 05:36:58 pm I hope its good.. :/ Because im kinda tired of these "hog hunting" shows...its making people think they know all about hog doggin and stuff... Its getting stupid especially when I have had people call me because they hear I hog dog and they want to sell me their "bay dog" when I ask what breed they say they just told me..the breed is "bay dog" lmao i hope ill actually enjoy this show and not get annoyed with it like the others....

Hope its better than the last hog doggin show!
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Meatdog on August 08, 2011, 09:36:50 pm Talked to the former owner of my dogs who took the cast/crew out. He said they didn't know jack about pigs. They didn't hustle in after the dogs caught and that's why one of mine got roughed up.
The outlook for the show does not look good :/ Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: treeingratterrier on August 08, 2011, 10:22:55 pm Talked to the former owner of my dogs who took the cast/crew out. The outlook for the show does not look good :/ I dont get it, your dogs are going to be on the series about hog dogging and the film crew is not knowledgeable about hog filming or are you saying Jerry is not knowledgeable about hog hunting and slow to the bay??? Who is the new owner of your old dogs, Campbell or somebody else?? Sounds like the show is not all about the Campbells??? Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: TColt on August 08, 2011, 10:59:12 pm Talked to the former owner of my dogs who took the cast/crew out. He said they didn't know jack about pigs. Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Meatdog on August 08, 2011, 11:15:03 pm I haven't had the dogs long, probably 2 months. If you watch the trailer, the cowboy in the black hat is my buddy's dad. The dogs were his and he wasn't hunting them as much as he would like and gave them to me. From what I understand they filmed several months ago.
The dogs had the boar caught, the crew was filming and the hunters (I guess the campbells - whoever the old man, guy, and girl are on the show) were hesitant to go in and get the hog. One of the dogs was getting torn up pretty good so my buddy's dad went it and finished the job. He seemed to think they were a joke as far as hog dogging goes. He was surprised to see his face on TV as well. it looks like the show is abt the Campbells but they go with other guys who know something about hog hunting. Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Chelcee on August 09, 2011, 09:32:47 am I haven't had the dogs long, probably 2 months. "true redneck" it's a figure of speech. It don't matter what we do in Texas, everybody from the big cities thinks the same of us. I went to New York a year back and they all still think we ride horses every where out of the big cities down here and didn't believe me when I said otherwise. It's somethin that has been stuck to us and prolly won't ever change. I think they even bring in a heli at some point in the show. They just finished filming a few days ago. It was real hard on them with the heat and drought. I think it will be somewhat corney to us as hog hunters but has to be for hollywood or people on the outside looking in. Hopefully it wont be too over the top. Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: TColt on August 09, 2011, 12:02:00 pm Maybe so, Hogs gone wild finished filming only a few weeks before it aired also. I think they edit as the shows are playing, that would be my guess. I dont know as much about hollywood as everyone on here though.
Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: Chelcee on August 09, 2011, 12:42:08 pm Thats VERY weird. It at least takes three for everything..even if they are editing while filming...unless its low budget.

Title: Re: New Hog Doggin Show Post by: hvacman on August 22, 2011, 09:30:26 pm NEW YORK (AP) — The Texas heat is forcing the A&E television network to call "time out" on a new series about hunting hogs.
The network's "American Hoggers" series was set to premiere Aug. 16, focusing on the Campbell family of central Texas. They hunt wild boar seen as a scourge by some residents and ranchers. A&E said Wednesday that producers have cut back on the filming schedule due to high heat. The series will instead premiere sometime in fall, at a date to be determined. David McKillop, executive vice president of programming at A&E, says that "in this record-breaking heat, even the hogs can use a break." |
