Title: Good day and Bad day Post by: JandAoutdoors on February 01, 2009, 12:43:00 am I havent been hunting much this year, but some of my family came down this weekend and i took them out to catch a hog, 20 min into the hunt we got a hog bayed up in a slu, we got the hog bout 160lbs (no pics ruined the camera n the water) went to checking the dogs and noticed my favorite dog Rebel was missing and i started tracking and came back to the slu and sure enough we found him bout an hour later, the hog had got him down in the water and drowned him,ive been lucky ive been hog hunting with dogs for bout 10yrs and this is the first fatality ive had to experience i thank God ive been that lucky, if you hunt long enough its going to happen. he will be truly missed as a hog dog and as a great family dog.

We put my new gaurenteed catch dog to within ten feet of the bay and she curd out and ran leaving the two bay dog to fight by themselves. My other one is gonna be down for a while but she'll be ok.

Title: Re: Good day and Bad day Post by: So Oklahoma Cur Dogs on February 01, 2009, 02:11:35 pm She didn't. She was scared to death. I even tried to throw her on it and she would run back. The guy I hunt with saw her catch in a pen real good and the guy I got her from said she would catch in the woods but he always hunted her with another catch dog. Guess she didn't want to do it alone. I traded a bay dog for her and am gettin it back in about an hour and he's gonna throw in another catch dog that supposed to catch.

Title: Re: Good day and Bad day Post by: justincorbell on February 03, 2009, 09:56:22 pm three weeks ago i lost 2 ybmc's and yeah like ya'll said.......its always the best ones..............my catch dog was cut up so i didnt have him (first mistake) so i borrowed a dog that my buddy just got given to him by a dog so quote on quote said that the dog "hits like a freighttrain everytime" well apparently the dog took the night off because instead of tearin out when i let him loose he stayed at my side and walked into the bay with me then this 110lb "freight train" decided to turn into a curr dog and bay the hog.........needless to say i went that night with 4 dogs and left with one......i havent had to use a gun on a pig since i started hunting until the other night.........i couldnt do anything but stand out of the way and hope to hell the pit/dogo was gonna catch and he never did..........long story short he got hit 1st and HARD then my two gyps followed thereafter....they were in 6ft tall marsh grass and i never could get a shot......so now im down to 1 walker and 1 catch dog..........it sucks......u always know in the back of your mind that it can happen but u tell urself it wont happen to you.........its not fun goin home and havin ur kids ask where the girls are or in my case havin my gf lookin at me askin where "her girls" are...............i can promise you from this day forward all of my dogs will run collars and vests! take my advice its just not worth it!
