Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: GRUNTER HUNTER12 on February 02, 2009, 02:45:46 pm ive wormed him like 3 times
Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: elliscountyhog on February 02, 2009, 02:59:15 pm Keep giving him scraps a few days wont do it. Give him a few weeks he will start getting better, if not he may have pestcites that regular wormer will not take care of and need ??.. Cant remember the name. But i had to do this recently cause of bad dog food and the wormer i was using did not kill some of the pestcites my dog had.
Is he is a kennel? Chain? How long chain? How big kennel? Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: Scott on February 02, 2009, 03:12:25 pm A table spoon of lard with his kibble every day ;)
Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: bmoney on February 02, 2009, 05:02:31 pm bread
Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: uglydog on February 02, 2009, 05:16:22 pm what did you worm him with?
Cereal/Grains will bloat and appear fatter until they run it off in a couple of hours, it does not add to their muscle or weight gain Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: Mike on February 02, 2009, 05:26:49 pm Any time I get a dog that's real skinny, I "super worm" them with a tube of Safeguard. I give them a third of the tube three days in a row. That's the small tube for one horse.
You might take a fecal sample into your vet to double check... my Tweety dog got real poor and it turned out she was infected from a tick. Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: Wormy Dog Kennels on February 02, 2009, 07:14:27 pm How bout this, 1/10th of a cc of ivromec per 44lbs. and 3cc,s of strongid"t"
Thats the combo I use and it works for me, But if he is not wormy try half of a tea spoon of weat germ oil. Becarefull to much will defintley scour him. hope I could help. Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: Monteria on February 02, 2009, 07:38:01 pm You wormed it three times with what wormer? What parasites does it not kill?
There are not too many wormers that kill everything. The broadest spectrum are probably a Valbasin and Ivermectin cocktail, Equimax or Zimmermectin Gold (the last two are Ivermectin and Praziquinal Paste) All three of those kill damn near everything but if you dont know what you are doing with the Ivermectin, you can kill your dog too. Either way, Id start my search for the answer by finding out what the current wormer does not kill. Safeguard (Fenbedazole) or Ivermectin are not effective on tapeworms. I used Praziquantel. A fecal sample to the vet will tell you.

Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: buddylee on February 02, 2009, 10:07:05 pm Have you taken him to the vet. Might be a medical problem. Should take him there before you try all these home remedies and make him worse.

Should take him there before you try all these home remedies and make him worse. I did not mean what I said to preclude a trip to the vet. That's what we determined after a trip to the vet. I second buddylee's comment. It would be worth a trip to the vet to know for sure what you are up against. Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: GRUNTER HUNTER12 on February 03, 2009, 02:12:28 pm He is a pitbull im not for sure what kind of wormer it was and he was fine and healthy at 1 point and then he jus stared losin weight a guy had him before me and didnt feed him i feed him like 4 cups a day
Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: muleman on February 03, 2009, 02:17:55 pm 4 cups of what?? Because 4 cups of Ole Roy or something like that is no where near enough. I vote tapes. Fecal sample is cheap enough.
Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: GRUNTER HUNTER12 on February 03, 2009, 02:23:07 pm its alpo dry dog food
Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: muleman on February 03, 2009, 03:14:01 pm I would switch that first. The first ingredient on most of the Alpo dry foods is corn, then corn gluten meal. There are some threads on here about feeding raw. and some guys that know a lot about that that could get you started on it. I would look into that or at least a premium dog food. I dont feed mine raw meat (mostly because I'm not that dedicated) but I have done tons of research on dog foods and canine nutrition. just read lables.
Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: muleman on February 03, 2009, 03:18:44 pm check this link about Alpo's ratings
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=64&cat=all it got one star out of 10 (because there was nothing lower) Title: Re: Skinny catch dog Post by: YOUNG HUNTER on February 03, 2009, 07:33:29 pm hey danny go to the feed store and get the big black bag of food. because the same thing happened to me then i switch to this black bag and my dogs filled out alot ;)

Once you have the dog up to weight, you will save money by feeding a good quality food.
If the dog isn't gaining weight at all, I'd get it to the vet. The tickborne disease that mike's Tweety had could easily have killed her if he had delayed getting treatment for her. Cheers!
