Title: Re: Dogos Post by: hoghunterdfw on July 26, 2011, 10:03:19 am Me and my buddy Grant just had a litter out of our two dogos PPC Eloy x PPC Itaca (Kaya) about 2-3 weeks ago. Both are great catchdogs, check my previous posts for pics. We only have 2 pups in the litter both males that we are selling. They will be BAER tested in a few weeks once they are old enough. Pm me for for more details if your interested.
Title: Re: Dogos Post by: TColt on July 26, 2011, 01:31:34 pm Both those dogs are great dogs. I just got a pup from Marvin at LA Dogos. Not really sure if there is any way he wont turn out to be an outstanding dog.
My only advice to picking out a dogo is go look at breeders and parents and if you can watch them hunt/catch, or at least find out about their dogs. Then pick your favorite male and female and try to wait till there is a litter out of those two dogs. Dont rush getting a pup, and dont take someones word on weather they hunt or not. You may get lucky, but if you really look into it you will be able to tell weather they have true hunting lines or not. Someone flying themselves down to Texas from New York one weekend a year and catch a couple pigs is not true hunting lines, you never know what will make a catch dog cur out unless you really test them. Also, make sure that if someone shows you a bunch of hunting pictures or something of their dogs or pups out of their dogs, make sure they are the ones hunting and evaluating their dogs. Some breeders may be showing you pictures of a dog that is out of a breeding they did and it may be the only dog in the whole litter worth a damn. Point is, take your time. Title: Re: Dogos Post by: James Ket on July 26, 2011, 07:12:27 pm I got one of those New York pups. He caught at 4 months old on a small shoat and caught again at 7 months old on a boar. I have no doubt he will turn out to be an excellent hunter and catcher. I have another New York dog that is five years old and she too is a solid catch dog. Has the scars to prove it. She's retired now because my wife likes her too much. Just because they come out of New York doesn't mean they wont and can't hunt/catch.
TColt has a great point. You definitely should hunt with or atleast spend some time around the parents. There are some great guys here in South Texas that have amazing dogos. Some imported straight from Argentina. I have been fortunate enough to get to hunt with some of them. Good luck on your search. Title: Re: Dogos Post by: Dirtydog on July 26, 2011, 09:24:34 pm Logan , a GOOD dogo is going to cost you at least $1000 as a pup, plus it NEEDS vet care.
Title: Re: Dogos Post by: James Ket on July 26, 2011, 09:28:13 pm Clint Richardson has some he just posted. His pups are very good looking and the parents look to be great hunters.
Title: Re: Dogos Post by: hoghunterdfw on July 26, 2011, 09:28:26 pm Anyone who is interested in a pup and wants to hunt with me and Eloy or Kaya (once the pups are weened) is welcome to anytime. In fact I encourage it, and agree with what Tcolt said 100%, regardless of who you buy one from, take your time, do your research, and definitely go on a hunt with the parent dogs if at all possible.
