Title: Why we do it.
Post by: J.Prince on July 27, 2011, 01:48:45 pm
This has probably been discussed before, but I figured we'd get going again. I'm just curious to see why everyone loves this sport. I know most ppl will say there's more than one reason, but pick the number one reason why.

I've hunted all over the world, drove drag cars, fished for everything that would bite.
Nothing compares to hearing a great bay especially when you've raised  the ones baying.

Couldn't agree more. I have to watch myself when I hear the dogs open up, so that I don't let myself get over excited.  ;D lol

I have to agree with that first bark....nothing like it, then the rush of running into a scrap with a tooth critter and to know your dogs are there and these are dogs you trained and raised. There's just to much to dog hunting period to say 1 favorite, be it rabbit, cat, coon, or hog there's a pride in your pack and the rush of the chase and the trophy at the catch.

It's kinda like fishing. You don't know what you have until you get there. Whether it be a big bad boar hog or just a little sow. That's one of the things I like plus nothing sounds better than plotts on a trail.

I love watching a catch dog hit a pig like a freight train... To me that catch is so freaking awesome!!

Hate hogs? Not me, I enjoy eating them too much.  Plus if it weren't for hogs there wouldn't be hog dogs.  But really to me there is something hard to explain when you raise a pup and watch him learn what you want it to do.  When you've hunted with a certain dog so much you can read his actions and assume he can read yours.  To me its the bond you build with the dogs.
