Title: A few pics from our local annual hunting competition Post by: Outback Catahoulas Austra on August 01, 2011, 06:52:36 pm Well we have completed the 2nd Emerald Springs Dog-a-Hog competition here in Northern Territory OZ.
It well and truly doubled in entries this year with well over 100 entries. Biggest pig was won by Doug(aka - Arabs or Nothing) and his crew = 100.5kg dressed. Which they backed up from last years win also. Most pigs dogged was 61 for the 3 days. Our team of Catahoulas were runners up with 59 dogged. Average was probably 60kg. No monsters this time round. Here's a few pictures of the hunt & fun @ the weigh in yesterday arvo. No injuries except some stiffness. Time to go. A mate from Victoria (southern OZ) flew up for the hunt. (http://boarhunters.com.au/community/files/album/2cd806a9aabc537a37015511c8339ee1.jpg) Outback's BUSTA - I bought back from a customer 3 days before the hunt. (he is my BO's brother out of my original import bitch BLT's OPAL the Sire was Conch's BOdie) No bitches were hunted on this trip due to all being in heat! (http://boarhunters.com.au/community/files/album/1fddef3cb32421de76c099a3a8c60f20.jpg) The dogs show some interest in this area on the way in to a spot we were heading. I opened the cage on the way out to see if they we're still interested...They pulled an average sow out just after this picture (http://boarhunters.com.au/community/files/album/8cfc4649775bd17e90910d0fcc35a1f3.jpg) My mate from Victoria with a Boar & Outback's BO (Busta's brother) (http://boarhunters.com.au/community/files/album/4bf17494ad9fc6798b3ab8ff5c6d7871.jpg) BO reckoned he knew better spots so he wanted to drive (http://boarhunters.com.au/community/files/album/8882e88e5377a319ce67f08e62942e26.jpg) BUTSA show some great working ability. He arrived to me Monday night & his fitted into one of my teams instantly. He was pulling off regular 6-700 mtr finds all weekend. He & his brother BO are out my first import bitch OPAL. Here he is after pulling this boar out of a mob & bailing him one out until my arrival. (http://boarhunters.com.au/community/files/album/815ebe1c56c95673722c810124d6cc70.jpg) We had to contend with Helicopters & a muster while out there in a few of our paddocks. This them finishing there muster the same time we left... lol.. we thought it crappy timing too lol (http://boarhunters.com.au/community/files/album/6246b9c6ebb73fa9fc745181a439d1e0.jpg) Title: Re: A few pics from our local annual hunting competition Post by: Outback Catahoulas Austra on August 01, 2011, 07:02:50 pm These are the contenders for best set of hooks (tusks)

Title: Re: A few pics from our local annual hunting competition Post by: Outback Catahoulas Austra on August 03, 2011, 11:37:02 pm warrent423 - Were i hunt (Northern Territory) there are no boxes to sell pigs. Purely for training & working the dogs & FUN ;D
uglydog - From late July until late September mate. Now is the coolest but best hunting is as it warms & dry's up some. Late September but day temps are 39 celcius & 95% humidity. Welcome anytime ;) YELLOWBLACKMASK- from time to time people do lose to crocodiles. I have never, most of my country hunted has low numbers but they are BIG. We don't muck around the "known" bad areas too long. We only pull up to water the dogs in thevery shallow & clear creeks...Theory has worked to date :-\ agteach11 - I had 3 "finished/working" dogs & 2 in training. My hunting buddy had 3 working dogs. One was a catch dog. We planned on resting half the dogs at a time.it didn't happen. They seemed to cope fairly well. One hunt was from 12am till 12pm after just a 4 hour break from a previous 6 hr hunt.... Dogs made me very proud. They found & chased until they could'nt catch up no longer.... about 40 hrs HUNT time in 2.5days...........they earnt there food ;) ;) 8) I washed the Commander(ATV) yesterday and they jumped in when i moved it ready to go again ;D ;D Title: Re: A few pics from our local annual hunting competition Post by: sfboarbuster on August 04, 2011, 07:40:00 pm Good hunt sounds like a blast!
How is the handle on those dogs that you've got from barney? Are they skittish at all when your trying to catch them? Title: Re: A few pics from our local annual hunting competition Post by: Outback Catahoulas Austra on August 04, 2011, 09:19:24 pm Good hunt sounds like a blast! When i first got them mate, they were. As soon as i started hunting the gyp she came good over night. The male took about a year for him to stop cowering at me when called grabbed/collared etc.How is the handle on those dogs that you've got from barney? Are they skittish at all when your trying to catch them? Both are very easy to control now. I did hear he was very hard/harsh on his young dogs...Not ideal for this breed! 8) Title: Re: A few pics from our local annual hunting competition Post by: Caskey on August 05, 2011, 02:46:15 am That some good teeth on them Hogs!
