Title: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: YELLOWBLACKMASK on August 02, 2011, 09:34:48 pm Lots of folks enjoy different builds of Yeller dogs usually to adapt to their local terrain or personal hunting style. I like my dogs to have a semi or full block head longer nosed with deep chest , slim stream lined build and a good set of legs under them. I wont get into the paint on a Yeller except to say they call em Yellow BLACKMOUTH curs. LOL.
Some prefer the shorter blockier built bull dog type with short noses. My prefrence is based mostly off of personal taste but also for traveling and covering ground and the longer nosed Yellers I have been around seem to have a colder trailing ability. If you have your own personal combination that pleases you what is your build a Yeller look and explain why that build attracts or just plain ole works for you. Post the pic if you got your text book on the ground. Enjoy NO CROWS IN THIS POST MIKE!!!!!!!! :D (http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h450/YELLOWBLACKMASK/bOOGgRINGO.jpg) (http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h450/YELLOWBLACKMASK/Picture045.jpg) Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: ROCKIN ROO HOG DOGS on August 02, 2011, 09:46:41 pm Bigger is better for me. I ilke a little loose skin, helps reduce cuts and a lot nicer to sew/staple than a tighter skin dog.

As far as building the perfect yeller dog? I'll just keep a dozen really good ones that come in varied shapes and sizes, oh and all but one don't even have a black mask ;D But I do like a big leggy male with a broad head if I'm being picky, I will however pass on looks for performance every time Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: bayin the big ones on August 02, 2011, 10:24:47 pm half catahoula in em ;)
Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: Strike Dog Kennels on August 02, 2011, 10:47:27 pm Red spotted with long hair and uh..... OH I'm sorry I wasn't supposed to comment on the perfect color.
Enoung leg to cover some ground. I like a taller type dog. Longer nose to help breath. Stout rear end so they don't break down. Wide chest, so the cut vest fits. The red dog in picture looks good to me. Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: arrowbar on August 02, 2011, 10:48:32 pm I like em like this

Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: Reuben on August 03, 2011, 08:39:28 am If I were to go with the BMC I would want the females about 50 pounds and the males between 55-60 pounds with slick red (dark yellow ???) coats. Natural hard tight bodies and medium built with good leg under them for speed and agility, yet have that look of power and strength...kinda like a middle linebacker or an iron man athlete.
Medium head with good length of nose/head and good ear that breaks over even with the skull. It cost the same to feed a good looking one as it does an ugly one so I will go with the one that makes me happy and proud assuming that hunting ability is about the same. However I will have to say the better looking one will hunt better because he is built right. OH...his face can range from frosty white to black... :) Hunting style... pup would start baying shoats at 10-12 weeks and trailing them in the pen. At 4-5 months take him to the woods and he will make a big round and check in. He doesn't know why he did it but it made him happy and mother nature just calls... He has a good cold nose to trail and the smarts to cut and slash and find the exit track to locate...not a bush beater that looks busy but a dog that makes finding hogs look easy. He has enough grit and has the natural inclination to stop a hog and then back up and bay. When he locates a good track he opens with 3 barks to alert the handler and call the other dogs to him...then shuts up until the hog is bayed. A few barks here and there after the hog breaks bay is ok with me. This dog hunts with me and ranges from 200 to 600 yards around and sometimes further if no hogs in the area. As long as we are moving the dog is busy hunting that circle around me. This dog will do its best to put a hog at the other end of the tracks... I like for the pup to be born with a long tail but bob it to 5-6 inches when full grown. This way he can be confused with a mtn cur... ;) WHERE CAN I FIND ONE OF THESE DOGS??? ??? ;D :) Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: airduster29 on August 03, 2011, 08:49:26 am yes they must be yellow for me but I want a dog built for the job my strike dogs need to be built for speed and agility and my stopping power big and blocky for power and a few inbetween wouldnt hurt either ;)

(http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc3/3britts/Hogdog/BladenIndio2.jpg) There are a couple things I wish I could change about Blades ways, but as far as overall build, structure and coloring, he is it. Indio is a close second, but he is just a tad keener built. Not knocking him at all, just making an observation. Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: waylon-N.E. Really if you can look up a picture of Craig Loftins Earl, Sally or Jenny that's how I like mine and what I want to keep and produce. Big leggy red colored BMC " Hood " dogs with a ton of hunt and winding fools. Yea I don't tell everybody cause its like having a third nipple, but few of mine throw them pale faces. Strikdog kennel has an outcross male that looks just like that WB dog. I will have to give him credit when he breaks him out of moth balls I don't have anything still living that can hang with him. Without a doubt I figure the WB was a goodun but I am still making up my own mind about the line to see if they fit my personal tastes. But they are Perty I will give em that up front for the most part. Bobby I will say that pick with Mavricks dog is a wall hanger. The Perty yellers I mean. LOL DoubleR The reason I asked the question is that the pic of tank dog reminded me of an old wives tale I have heard multiple times. The old timers always told me to watch for the dogs with a pot knot on the rear of the skull. The tale goes it is a sign of higher intelligence. I don't believe in witchcraft but its kinda crazy I have confirmed it to always be accurate. LOL unless I am the one that put the pot knot there manually. HEHE Great pics to all that have posted. Keep em conning. We gotta beat the colored dog post that's kickin now. Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: Txhoghunter on August 07, 2011, 09:22:14 pm I'm not a real big fan of a large frame dog, or one that looks and catches like a half pit. But one the other hand, I'm not crazy about a slender headed, long nosed yellow dog either...I like them somewhere in the middle. Built stout enough to handle themselves, but not too big so it makes them less athletic...

Maye it's just good genetics coming to surface from the same dogs that made WB so well known, I'd have to give the real credit for WB to those dogs a few generations prior to him and the men who bred those dogs ;D I know WB is surrounded by 2 sides, one that loved him and the other that called him a cull but either way he is one of the most well known yeller dogs to ever live. I would venture to say he don't have much back up in him. Great pic AW Do you have same bloodline that Txhoghuntet has. They look Perty close Waylon I know that I don't have any Wb blood in em for the past 23 years my line dogs were local lines for plenty if years prior to that. So far none have been born with pedigree's attached. LOL But I am still poking around the line to see if its gonna interest me in the future. Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Well this is the only yella dog I have so far so I figured I'd put a pic up. She is off Monty's line to and is already pretty feisty. Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: AW on August 08, 2011, 07:47:28 am YBM
I just bred to the dog i posted i dont own him but yes they are brothers. I was wondering if you needed an outcross and found the perfect Yeller dog to add to your line and he/she was the total package but they had a bobtail would it be a deal breaker? Yes sir it would be a no go for me personally. Not a thing wrong in the world except my own personal tastes, but I have to have rudders on all my boats. Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! Post by: TShelly on August 08, 2011, 01:45:15 pm I've only owned one.. And I'm satisfied with how he's put together and performs, although I do have a picture in my mind of the perfect yellow dog! I prefer a leggy, more athletic built BMC. Bryants dog that passed is perfect in my opinion.. I really like blOckier headed dos but sometimes their frames can get big. I prefer a smaller/ medium framed dog.. 50-60 #'s
(http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/pp289/baseball_10_03/1294323084.jpg) drake is my white colored dog, his hair is just a touch longer than I like but other than that I enjoy him. He'a medium framed, muscular, fast, becoming a go yonder type dog. He doesn't mind going by hisself, he varies but will hunt out over a mile at times. Has good bottom.. Don't know much about his bloodline but he was registered and came from the college station pet store lol (http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/pp289/baseball_10_03/1312827372.jpg) Bess the dog on the left is a very, very nice yellow dog. My buddy JJ up in Wortham owns her, she is just a touch on the big side for me! Big square head and very muscular, she's a beast too! She's as nice a hog dog as I've seen. Slow hunter, but bottom for days! (http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/pp289/baseball_10_03/1293909707.jpg) we just crossed her with a leggy red cur dog Big E owns, hopefully gonna produce the perfect type yelloWs Title: Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog!
