I do a real good worming BEFORE I breed the bitch and the male. Then on puppies i do 2, 3, 4, and 6 weeks of age and every 2 weeks after that until the pups are 10 to 12 weeks old. Do not just put the wormer into the dog dish and try to worm them all at once. This is dangerous as some pups will get too much medicine and others will not get enough. I use pyrantal pamoate and the dose I use is one tenth of a cc per week of age. Since it’s your first time let me also take the freedom to remind you of a few things that may help you out---- 1. KEEP the dame in a COOL, DRY and CLEAN area away from all other dogs and noise a place she can relax to have her pups--- try to not have visitors either she needs to stay calm. 2. See if your vet will sell you three syringes with 1cc of oxitocine just in case you need it (better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it). 3. Puppies need to stay at a constant 80°f but not much higher than that since they cannot regulate temperature you will have to do it for them, keep a watchful eye on the weather. 4. WATCH FOR ANTS I have never lost a litter to ants but have read about lots of them. 5. I whelp inside but some folks whelp outside (nothing wrong with that) make sure that the spot you use is free of spiders and harmful bugs and animals, I did have a bitch get bit by a brown recluse and it was no fun. GOOD LUCK and fear not to ask, LOTS of good folks on this forum with good know how and they are very kind and willing to share what they have learned, it’s a great spot this forum. Title: Re: Dixi expecting pups. Help Post by: Oly on August 04, 2011, 11:48:55 am No not at all the important thing at this stage is the dose--- you need to make sure you get the right dose, you do not want to over do it.
I normally de-worm a bitch at day 42 of her pregnancy or as close to that day as possible. OH one other thing I forgot--- KEEP good feed in front of her and lots of fresh water at ALL times, I know its a given I hope you do not think I am disrespecting you by bringing these point up, its just general reminders sometimes we get all excited and worried about the BIG items and forget the obvius things.
