Title: Kemmer puppy from Dee Smith baying hog
Post by: thesquealisreal on August 10, 2011, 02:25:29 pm
This is the Kemmer female I got from Mr. Dee Smith just under 3 months baying a hog. She has been putting her nose to the ground and smelling everything since she was 6 weeks old. We introduced her to a hog and this is what she is doing. She is already hog crazy! Really looking forward to working with her and adding her to my pack in the future.

Now that's what I call a prospect for a hog dog. It's not that often that you find a pup that young with that much focus....she never takes her eyes off the pig,...a trait that's a huge plus to me. If you play this right I think you're gonna be happy with this one.

x2

next step is to turn the pig loose in a pen and let the pup chase and bay it. If no pen tie a long thin rope on a rear foot.

Most Kemmers will bay the front end just like this pup is doing and will catch a ham or nuts if the hog tries to break bay. When they get older they will bay the front and when the hog is tiring they will circle to the back side and grab and hold if working alone...

Dang good video. I have to get me a pig soon. I let mine venture in the yard, play in water, and hunt for hidden treats... oh and when i play rough with him he tries to bay me up. Next step is for me to get him on a pig.

Mr. Dee- Any stand out dogs in the recent breeding of this litter. A buddy (Bobby Swindle) from Livingston Louisiana area has a male dog from you i think. He said he was a golden nugget dog from a double grand champion something buck on top and bottom of the breeding.

I'm gettin' old, I can't remember which dog/dogs he got from me?  I believe he got a pup and an older dog?  The older dog showed no interest in hogs but last I heard from Bobby the dog was doing well on tree game?  Can't remember the pup?  I've only had 3 litters of Kemmers.  The last 2 litters have been within the last 9 months, the first one was over a year ago, maybe two?
I assume his pup would have come from that first litter?  But I'm drawing a blank?   :-\

Dogs name is Bella. He is more into squirrel and coon hunting. Bella is treeing coons. He also just got a kemmer feist mix (hybrid dog), which is supposed to be his tree rat dog. Do any of this last litter trace back to bella's parents? Bobby is the one wanting to know.

Ok, Bella was the female I kept out of that litter and she did not show any interest in hogs.  She was out of Wiley and Minnie.  Bonnie, like Minnie, have Kemmers Granny on the Dams side.  Cousins yes, but not that close.
Wiley is Sport II blood, which is heavy in Sport and Target.  Jack, the sire to the past two litters, is more Nugget, Blondie, and BJ Buck.

So no, Bella is related yes, as all Kemmers trace back to the same founding lines, but she is just a cousin to these pups.
