Title: Drought Effects on Walker County Post by: TShelly on August 11, 2011, 08:24:07 am The drought is really hitting home now. Talking to a forester the other day. He said Walker county was a 775 on the current drought scale.. With it being measure from 1-800, and 800 being the most Extreme!! Like Matt said the trees are dying everywhere or going dormant by releasing their leaves early. I've been getting lots of buck pictures lately with lots of familiar faces, although a few made small jumps the majority are showing the tough effects this dry, dry year has had on them

He would have started on August 6! Now I'm not sure if this is a product of the stress the drought has put on them or just a genetic trait to start shedding early, as he was the first deer I had last summer on camera with hard horns. I can't quite remember the dates from last year to compare. Im wondering is anyone else getting pictures of deer shedding their velvet already??? Ponds are drying up that people have never seen or thought possible. The wide deer lost is 5" g4 on his left side this year as a case of the drought

Also not seeing the bone we like to see on their heads.

You deer look to be in decent shape considering. Joking aside it's bad all over. This will have effects on wildlife for years to come you can count on that.

Everything is Golden Brown and cracks when you walk on it . Almost all the tanks are dry and got cracks you might have a four wheeler tire fall off in. Obviously some people who live in other parts of Texas are going to be dryer. I wasn't trying to compare, just stating that now it's the driest it's ever been here and how it's effecting the wildlife and habitat
