What kind of dog is he? He might have hip dysplasia and a trip to the vet might be needed. Usually big dogs get it and it is hereditary. German Shepards, Dobermans and other breeds tend to get it. I had to put down one of my dogs because of it..

But it could be some other ailment???

I have a bulldog that has luxtating puttella or something like that. Which means his back knee sockets pop out of place from time to time. So every now and then he'll start hopping around or dragging one leg until it pops back into place. Might be something to look into.

I'm going dr. House and saying a rate Asian spider bit him and the toxins formed a small growth causing temporary nurse damage to his pelvic area, next he will go blind I'n one eye.  But serious i would take him to the vet.

can you touch areas around his lower spine and back legs near the hamstrings? any pain at all when you try to? sounds like hip dysplasia really but it could be worse. i would recommend a vet within the week, it could be a tick bite that is near the spine.

FCE??? (fibrocartilaginous embolism) I just had a friends bulldog come down with this--- its sad to watch a dog who could leap up a 6 foot fence not be able to use her hind.

he could have jumped off a bed or a set of steps or even off a log, landed on his back legs wrong

or he could have a tick bite thats infecting the nerves to his back legs

best of luck to the dog

We had a dog years ago that done the same thing got to were he coud not use his back legs and would pull his self around with his front legs. An elderly lady that lived down the road from the house came by one day and seen him and told my dad to put some turpentine down his back he put a half a bottle down his back in a few days he was walking never had a problem after that but it sliped the hair on his back. My dad told the lady that it worked but sliped the hair on the dog's back. Come to find out my dad used to much she said to dribble it down his back .

I would be willin to bet that this stems from the heat. Cause it sounds like a classic case of "runnin the dogs back off"

I have personally seen chiropractic adjustments fix that exact problem several times. From Dauchsunds to Danes. It wont work for some conditions but does great for the more common causes. You will know within 6 visits if it will work or not.  popo

One of my dogs was limping real bad and I thought it was his front shoulder. Come to find out his back was out of place and a trip to the doggie chiropractor and he's good as new

I've seen several dogs get too hot and get weak in the back end.
