Title: Catch vest Post by: Brushbuster on August 20, 2011, 09:36:59 pm Just had two cut vest & 2 boar bibs ripped to s*#t & both cd's cut down. Was a big hog with big teeth & I know they can get thru just about any material. But I would like some opinions on what is the best, both puncture & impact resistant, basically what y'all believe offers the most protection. I know the risk a cd takes everytime you turn them loose, & really feel its my job to keep them safe as possible. All input will be appreciated.

OK on August 20, 2011, 09:42:45 pm Vest are like dog breeds, there are guys using every type and brand out there and guys who won't use what another guy swears by, Like mike said if the dog didn't get all cut up the vest you got is a good vest IMO

I don't know one that is impact resistant. On one of my first hunts a dog was between the hog and a tree. The vest did not get cut but the dog did not make it. I put vests on every dog until then now only collars except catch dogs so they can move faster. I like Wildboar USA / Ugly Dog mostly because they are good people to deal with and they hunt what they make. More protection means less movement and more heat so pick your danger.
Sorry your dogs got tore up and glad they made it. But they are like flack jackets. Saves your life once you get a new one and call it good while you dig the shrapnel out of you rear end. I have been hunting with the Micheal from Hard Core Hogs and Dogs DVD's and have never saw a dog cut to shreds through a kevlar vest or collar . I have had the outer 2 layers ripped through a few times but no holes went all the way through . I'm the kind of person that will replace a vest or collar if they show any signs of wear and tear or I will not hunt . I have hunted with a few other people and they allways complained about their dogs getting poked through vest and collars but after I took a good look at what they were using it should have been replaced about 3 years before I ever saw it . So the way I see it no cut gear will last forever and should be replaced at the first signs of wear and tear or about 3 years if you hunt alot or have gritty dogs.
