Title: what type of antibiotics antibiotics
Post by: curdawgs on August 23, 2011, 10:48:59 am
What type of antiobiotics do you use for your dogs? Ive been using Tribesson (i think that is how it is spelled) all of my life. I get it from my vet. I use it for all cuts and injeries like that. But I am wanting to order some in bulk and save myself a lil money. Any suggestions? I saw Baytril somewhere but not sure if its good.

penicilin injectable or cephalexin capsules,im pretty sure they come in 300 mg and 500 mg doses per capsule. Either way mine are the green capsules. One down the throat in the morning and one down the throat in the afternoon until iinfection no longer looks like a threat.

With the cephalexin do you guys use the same amount for smaller dogs like Jagd's.  Or would you half the dosage?

I don't have jags so I'm not sure about giving them the same but they have the smaller doses. I would try the 250 or 300 mg  first

Depends on the injury. If it is deep tissue you don't need to use the same antibiotics as if it is just skin. A bladder infection don't require the same antibiotics as mastitis. There are just too many variables when it comes to antibiotics. Gram positive or gram negative bacteria, aerobic or anaerobic, they all use different antibiotics.

Depends;

Skin (minor cuts included), eye or ear= Cephalexin.
Internal infections/mestatis a bit bigger cuts= Amoxicillin
General use Combi-pen-48 or equivalent.

I don't ever use any form of pen, it seems there are too many bacteria that are resistant to it. I think if people continue to use it then more bacteria will become resistant to it. I prefer not to use any antibiotics but I will when necessary. I am very particular with antibiotic usage.
