Post by: TimmsHogDogs on September 08, 2011, 11:21:26 am
What would you pay for a AQHA registered Mare Lineback Dun? She is bred really good from what Ive been told.. heres what her papers say:

Sire Pedigree
The Prince of Polka-Doc's Muchacho-Polka Doc-Doc Quixote-Maguey Girl- Dry Doc- Hanna's Princess

Dam Pedigree
Reward by Tuffy- Tuffy's Wonder-Fianzas Reward- Tardy's Tuff1-Wonder Ginger-Rewards Sandollar-Fianza

Hers the catch, she is 4 yrs old and not broke to ride, bought her and another horse in a deal a month or so ago..... Tell me what you think she is worth and then I will tell you how much we paid for her

papers/breeding aren't everything unless she is a good representative of her lineage.

I've got some 2 yr olds that look good but aren't started that I bet wouldn't bring $75.00 at a sale with this drought. From what I've seen if they don't have a job and good at it they aren't worth much right now.

The horse market is horrible right now, not just because of the drought but also because they shut down the killers. If a horse is not a money earner or out of high dollar money earners then they ain't worth much. Ropin horse prices are down compared to what they were a few years ago. That being said, you may get a couple hundred dollars for her at the right sale.

see that is what i tried to tell me husband, she is a broad stocky horse and beautiful and we got her in a deal with a grullo gelding that he fell in love with problem is neither are broke to ride, we paid 600 for bot, was 500 for the gelding or 600 for both, once they open the horse killing back up pricing will go up but not much with the fact that they are 4 and unbroke, he says he is gonna break them and then eventually breed the mare but i dunno seems like a waste of money to me

Here in OK at the monthly sale barn i go to, that horse MIGHT bring 100 bucks, 200 at the most but it would have to be a damn good looking horse to bring that at 4yo and not broke. Two months ago we got rid of two 11yo TB's that were sure enough broke for anyone to ride at $350 total.  Which was OK because we paid only 100 for the pair. The horse market sucks right now and if it is not dead broke or a proven money earner you aren't going to get any money out of it, I dont care what the papers say.

Doc Quiote and Dry doc are the only two names on the papers that are worth a flip, every thing else is just mumbo jumbo. Its a good thing you got a good deal for her and hopefully she has found a forever home because the sad truth is even after another 4 years of traing she will probably only be worth the same amount. Not being negative but its my profession and without some kind of miracle its just the way the cookie crumbles :'(

Braden, I usually go to the Parrish auction in Wagoner. Haven't been much this summer just cuz its been so hot outside and even worse inside that barn. By my inlaws own a horse boarding facility there in Wagoner, so we usually just go out to BS with everyone and try to drum up some more business.
