Title: Using blades... Post by: Noah on September 10, 2011, 09:40:56 pm What yall use on a daily basis? I cannot deny that I am becoming a blade nerd... I likes me a good edge for every scenario... ;)
... I carry a simple chicago folding multiblade for the grunt work... my hog knife has always been a standard/half serrated KA-BAR... both solid working knifes... but, for "special occasions" ;D.... First off is my "goin' out" pocket knife... Bob Lum Spyderco... SCARY sharp. Lay it on what you want cut... pull... and just keep your fingers out the way.... :o ;D GOOD KNIFE WHEN YOU GOTTA CUT SOMETHIN' FAST. DANGEROUS knife when you know how to use it... If I can find a sheath for it, probably be carrying it as my new hog knife... just need to find one with a little more mass to it.... But this will put an adge on real fast then you put the steels on and it will keep it sharp without taking off too much metal. I use the Classic because the other one flexes after being used a while.

Post by: Noah on September 10, 2011, 10:06:04 pm Interesting dub, I've avoided those "draw type" sharpeners because I feel the micro serrations from a perpendicular sharpening motion cut better... but I have not, honestly, tried one of those draw type sharpeners.... defenitely look easier to use...
Title: Re: Using blades... Post by: dub on September 10, 2011, 10:24:24 pm You use a circular motion. I still use the stones if I need to sharpen near the tip but that is not very often. I saw skinners using them. I pulled out my old knife that needed sharpening and in thirty seconds they did what would have taken a few minutes plus you can't mess up. When you are skinning just have two knives and someone to clean and sharpen them as you hand it to them.

Id be scared to cut myself with it though.. its probably had more crack on it than blood... rolleyes ;D
