what is a blue plott? is it just a plott with a deformation of color or another breed of plott or what is it? and if someone has one post a pic and tell me a little about them thanks

Color variation called Maltese. Was told by old time plott men it was von plott who crossed weimeraners to plotts to get the maltese

so there shouldnt be any difference in a blue plott than the other kind of plotts as far as hunting ,nose etc.

back when they incorporated the wiemeraners in you would expect some differences but that was decades ago. Now its just a color variation like red brindle, black brindle, buckskin and so on.

X 2 no difference at all. My old female has a real good nose and fast.

Thanks Stephen, I have ran some pretty cold tracks with her. I wouldn't know exactly how to explain it.

I think I know what you mean, they are old enough that some cant find them and look old enough to know that they are old but you can not say exactly how long ago the bear went through there...right?

Yep, ive seen her strike tracks other dogs couldn't or wouldn't. She gets her nose from a dog named rowdy. Which im wanting to say is a weems dog,   my mind just went blank. Im wanting to say he is or was one of those dogs that went or the only one that stayed. Of those dogs that went over seas for all that big money. I for the life of me cant think of the guys name right now. Got his dogs directly from Mr weems. BAM!!!!!!     Burnside

thanks, I wished I still had that female right now, she was a dang good producer. Getting one of her pups back this weekend

if you do get a pup, breed it to one of the ones I am sending mike...so you can send me one from that litter to me  ;D

Sounds like a plan. I wish I had a female to breed my Pete dog to right now, he is half brother to my blue female which is doable and I might look at that a little closer tomorrow, but they both have that wussyness about them like said in that other post, and i thought it was just my dogs, but after reading all those post I might reconsider.  ;D

how much does one like that sell for ?? or is you have to know the right  people at the right time  ;D 

i know about that wussey  went to give mine a shot at 3 mths ,thought  i was killing him ..some tough as- hide  i ever seen ,this is my first plott..

If the dog is getting these injuries doing its job, then I can put up with the dramatic wussiness of doctoring them up.

Depends on who's doin the selling, I price mine all the same no matter the color, unless its one I want to keep, and somebody wants it worse than I do.  ;D

i dont know where mine came from, i dont think he was even papered but he was more yellow then brindle but you could stand him next to a reg plott and they look the same but he was lighter

I used to get alot of yellow brindle out the old line of Crockett dogs I used to have

good lookin dog hillbilly i like the way the maltese dogs got more of the old cur type plot looks medium ears and stouter body frame

Thanks, thats the way I prefer them. An old dog man that got me started, Alan Ford "Ford's Frontier kennels" would cull them on the spot if their ears would touch at the end of  their noses.
   Alan Ford, used to hunt alot with Taylor Crockett. And got dogs straight of Taylor's yard.

i thought i read somewhere that the blues came from the cascade line and they had a colder nose, i may be wrong but it worth checkin into.

Aint no tellin, but from what I have seen, most of the blues came t on real tight breeding.

the ones I have seem were pretty heavy weems but Mr. Weems started to breed for an almost jet black dog and most of his later litters were near that jet black that he was looking for, Mr. Weems used to talk to me about getting some dogs that traced to back to Vons dogs. And Von bred a bunch of dogs and was regarded as the man to get plotts from so the cascade dogs may have come from von as well.

Are you gettin that blue dog that Scotty has. Heard him saying this past week during training season, that they were going to give it to you to see if it would make a hog dog. Doesn't look much like any of these dogs above. Smaller dog, not brindle, but colored more like a weimeriemer. Good lookin dog.

They come all sizes, I raised a pup out of the bottom dog, that was blue, she is real small but a real bear dog.

tom i asked my pop where my plott came from and he said a buckskin breeder back in the late 80's

tryin to get a name but hes 82 so he cant rem, but correct me if im alittle hazy but hes mentioned owen lines before

bought his first 3 plotts from WV and hunted rabbits with them

That would be Mr. John Owens. One of the first to even register a plott.

That would be about right, they started registering them in 1946

well i remember listenin to his old stories of his dogs running rabbits and deer. and he would go off bout times that they would catch a bear on the ground and actually have teeth on the bear, i should ask him more about it since its been years since ive heard stuff like that it just got me to thinkin bout what i rem about my grandparents dogs

yeah warrent scotty got the dog for me i told him a few years back i wanted a plott if he ever ran across one, im gonna leave out sep 30 coming up there to hunt with him a few days, maybe we will get to check her out, and im glad to hear she isnt a real big dog i like a smaller built dog for some reason

It will be a sure 'nuff good time. Those guys make a good camp. Some good hogs on the mountain this year.

Bred my blue female Fri. And I can almost guarantee  there will be blue pups. Hope she took.

I had a frosty pup (white brindle) a couple years ago. Were did that color come from ? Yes she was a fullblood pr pup.

Do you have any pics, and what dogs were in the ped?
