Title: Gravel in Kennels Post by: cur-dog on September 16, 2011, 11:25:59 am Does anybody else use gravel/washrock in their kennels? I use #1 or 2 washrock in mine and I really like it.

The only draw back is that on a hit day the rock gets real hot and holds the heat for a long time
Title: Re: Gravel in Kennels Post by: warrent423 on September 16, 2011, 12:18:16 pm I have plywood floor in my kennels. Left the front two feet open and filled with pea rock. Dogs use rock. Easy to clean. Every month I'll bleach the rock and add more as needed.

Title: Re: Gravel in Kennels Post by: cur-dog on September 17, 2011, 01:52:20 pm dub, I let them out in the evenings to run around. The little one is in to "scooping the poop", I bet this phase doesn't last long.
My gravel is about 4 inches deep. I have 4"x4" panel under it and road base gravel/clay on the bottom. The little one is in to "scooping the poop", I bet this phase doesn't last long. It lasted a couple weeks for me. Sure was nice though. I guess I could let mine out to run around every other day. Don't want them getting spoiled. rolleyes I was thinking about some gravel. This drought it is too dusty. Now a little water fell and it is all mud. Mine is temporary to I did not want cement. What is the cost of gravel compared to wood? Title: Re: Gravel in Kennels Post by: cur-dog on September 17, 2011, 07:50:11 pm The load of gravel I just got cost $140. My three kennels are 10x20 (total area). I figure one load of gravel will completely fill them at least 5 times. I refill mine every year. The last load of gravel lasted 5 years, but I used it in the flower beds also. I haven't priced any lumber in awhile.
Title: Re: Gravel in Kennels Post by: SCHitemHard on September 17, 2011, 08:11:43 pm we tried pea rock but the area we had our kennels got washed out in a bad rainstorm

So far its easy to clean and has no smell . I might put some grip tape on part of the floor to rough up there pads.
