Title: White Deer Plotts
Post by: kellywood on September 21, 2011, 08:48:42 pm
Hello Friends,
I wondered if any of yall have hunted or been around any of Joe Burkett's White Deer Plott hounds? I picked up a pup from Joe and he is already trying to tear the hide off a small pig and he is just now 4 months. Just curious about halls opinions. Thank for your time.

Joe has a huge library of genetics to chose from. His pups are a bit pricey as you can usually get them cheaper from other reputable sources but he does have a steady supply to some good genetic lines.

At 5 months old, mine will open trail and tree coons if he doesn't catch them on the ground. Hands down earliest starting dog I've ever had. I know theyre out there, just havent had too many myself.

yeah i do a buddy of mine pawned him off on me . worst socialized pup i ever seen but after many months of work he's coming around . i wish that buddy of mine would get his papers sent in . he is a good lookin dog that is gonna make a dog  and be worth breeding, being improperly socialized wasn't the dogs fault .that happened before he left south texas .

that was probably when joe was mass producing pups. At any given time he had close to 200 pups on the ground. He has scaled back since.

Nice are you coon hunting or hog hunting with him?

Coons/Cats. But he will go a few rounds with a hog in the baypen to learn what they are. Maybe shoot some video when he does. I would have already set him up to get steamrolled but I'm having hell catching hogs right now.

I got a 6 month old gyp out of White Deer Jeff Plott x White Deer Samba Plott, she come off Joe Burketts yard, she is a good acting pup,and well sociollized. Going to coonhunt her hard this fall and winter,I have not put her on any game yet but she is very gritty. The litter she come out of were all good acting pups and not stand offish, but looked at a litter that was,it would be hard to handle that many pups. Joe is a good breeder, and has some for real hounds, they may be high but you get what you pay for...

I have a pup by Joe Plott and out of Nala Plott. She is just two months but I have seen amazing things from some of their other litter. I am hoping that these plotts hunt like yall's do. They sure seem to have the drive. Thanks for sharing all your wisdom.

Just met up with Joe Burkett on Saturday. I picked up my gyp pup by Joe Plott and out of Nala Plott-2 months. I really like her. She has very fine features but is one gritty pup. She already has several permanent scars. I have a male by Dollins Hicks and out of Coconut Plott and he is much bigger with more of the hound look. I did not hunt a dog, but I went along for the UKC nite coon hunt. Had a great time and got to see a bunch of those White Deer Plotts work.

 Where was the hunt?

Title: Re: White Deer Plotts
Post by: kellywood on October 03, 2011, 05:32:45 pm
Hey TomTom, The Hunt was in Haper. We met up at Joe's place and called the casts and broke off from there. My first time on a true UKC regulated nite hunt. I will have to read the rule book a few times, but I sure had a blast! It was with the Hill Country Coon Hunters Association. If anyone ever wants to coon or hog hunt in Central Texas, give me a holler!

Yeah, it is getting really hard to find folks that will let you hunt with dogs in that area. Full of deer though! If fact, I hit a 8 point and barely missed about 50 others.

I would like to know more about this Joe plott. Sounds like he throws some fast pups. I might be interested in the right gyp from this dog to cross with my Pete dog.

I like the fact that Dr. Burketts kennel is somewhat local. Being able to jump in the truck and go there and back in an afternoon makes it pretty attractive. I have a Duncan b&t pup on his way here and for the price of pup/shipping I could get two plott pups I know will be great. This is a hobby for me though, so I'm really just trying to see what is out there. I will surely be looking at White Deer b&t's in the future.

I will talk to Dr. Burkett, but I believe I heard him say he just had a litter or expecting one by his CH Black and Tan. You are right, it is nice to be able to get to his place and back home compared to a 3 day drive and lots of gas money. I will check with him regarding the Black and Tans and let you know.

TomTom I would love to hear about your Duncan pup when you get it, and see some pics.  I have been eyeing Ken's dogs for some time now.

I've been waiting on this pup for over a year. One reason or another couldnt get one until now. The one I have coming is almost four months old(still waiting on redwing haulers). He is out of a couple of Kens young superstars. If he acts like my White Deer Plott I will be very happy. Might even sell my Plott pup if this B&T pup is really that good. He should be here in a few days. I offered to let Ken sell him and send me another but he said he wasnt going to have another litter until spring. We will see...

Tom I don't want to steal this thread but please post a thread on your new pup when you get him.  Black and Tans are my favorite, so its nice to see and hear about them.
