Title: Last hunt before bow season - first hunt with new rig. Post by: jsh on September 29, 2011, 04:11:25 pm Bought me a Toyota and have been itching to take it out so went for a quick hunt this am. Sam showed treed at .8 miles in a nasty part of the ranch. I went in with the radio to check things out and it was a big spotted boar that has given me the slip 4 times and always runs into a group of hogs, losing the dogs. Of all days to not have my lever action 30-30 with me it had to be today. I missed the head shot with my .38 caliber, but did catch him broadside as he ran out of the creek. Sam tracked him 655 yds and showed treed again. Went back to the truck to get closer to the action. Got there and he had this sow bayed up. Shot her and she rolled down the creek with Sam on her ear. The terrain was too tough to get bulldogs in and I wasn't going to cut them out that far in the heat.
