I know i seen it on hear but ive been feeding my doggz liver from the store on occasion but my buddy procces deer asked me if i want any livers,hearts and the cutoff of the deer meat they have, told him ya but didnt know if there is any kind of problems ppl have had doin this. ive seen where sum can get sick from a diseased hog .

You should be fine. I have fed mine deer and know many people that do.

They'll be fine, skin hair and bones, nothing wrong with any of it or at least I never had no trouble feeding it to the dogs.

Just hope its to your DEER dogs!!

Depending on the dogs, maybe boil it out for a few minutes just to kill any possible micro parasites. I use the remaining pork meat i don't keep for myself and boil it out for about 10-15 minutes just to kill anything that may still linger.  I think It may just be so I can feel better in my mind. Lol

Its ok until you go hunting...then they will start chasing deer...it just taste better. 8)

I was feeding my dogs venison for about a whole month just cleaning out the freezer from last years hunts. They never had a problem and you'd swear they're energy was a whole lot higher.

Off topic sort of but does anybody else cut off the pigs ears and give them to the dogs?

ive been feedin deer trimmings also.no bone or fur.hope it dont make em run deer. ??? guy that gives it to me is kinda competition in hog hunting.hes alot older than me and likes to ride me a little about hunts.he said hes been feeding it for years and it doesnt bother his.he might of set me up. :-\

If you feed them a corn based dog food does, does that mean they will chase corn?

I take a hack saw and cut up the carcass. There's still meat on the bone and marrow and chewing on the bones gives them something to do besides dig and is helpin' them out. Haven't had any problems at all. I'm not real sure bout the liver though heart I'd think would be fine because it's a muscle but I ain't real sure bout the liver. I just let the yotes at the guts and organs.

I feed it to mine also, they was running deer way before I ever fed them deer meat tho.  ;D
Freezing it should take care of worms and such.

The liver andd the kidneys are the best part of a deer for the dogs.  High in vitimins etc.  This is why yotes 9 times out of 10 go for the gut first and may only eat these.  I always give them to the dog that I'm running the hardest or is looking a little down.

I get thousands of pounds a year of deer scraps. No bones or skins. The dogs absolutely love it. It is great for pups. The older dogs look great, especially the dogs with "bulldog" in them as their muscles bulk up. The body fat also drops. I have 4 chest freezers to store it and a band saw to cut the frozen chunks down to more managle sizes. Still need to feed dog food for the vitamins and mineral not contained in meat. Almost forgot the best benefit is the meat produces less poop and what is produced is much easier to clean up.

Yep, I have read that dogs need more than just meat to meet the required nutritional needs. That is one reason that carnivores eat the organs and stomach contents of the herbivores and omnivores they hunt.

that is one good reason to supplement with a good dog food.

I'm cheap, and don't like to waste anything.  I feed all deer scraps to my dogs. I have fed goats, pigs squirrels, chickens, and rabbits also.  It has no effect on what the dog hunts.

At the beginning of every hunting season, I clean out my freezers to get ready for the next batch of deer meat. 

Between my son and my father (who is too old to be in the woods hunting), they kill 15-20 deer each year in Florida and Alabama.  Almost all of them are does shot in Alabama.  Those two keep my freezers well stocked, minus the back strap.  I seldom deer hunt.

Keep the heart for yourself! Its better than the backstrap! I feed deer to my dogs and have never had a problem.

Ya he said he will start saving me some and the ones he does gut which isnt many he will save, figured it couldnt hurt plus its free, n yes i will still feedem the Diamond naturals chicken n rice which by the way they lookin good n good stools too i love it way more than the diamond hi energy
