Title: Anyone wanna tell Mt. Cur stories?
Post by: shankem on November 25, 2011, 12:04:01 pm
So I recently obtained the papers on my little mt. cur and the name BEATY'S TREEING BOB GR NITE & BNCH CHM appears 3 times on her pedigree. Several other names were easily researched but I came up empty on BEATY and hoping someone would feel like talking mt. cur. Also interested in crosses of all kinds and especially cat X mt. cur; I hunted with one a few times and enjoyed his company. A few names I was able to research were:  JR. JUKEBOX, BONNIE BETI, SMITH'S STREAK, FRANKLIN'S THUNDER. The names IKE and HARDWOOD GEORGETTA appear 2 times as well. JUKEBOX and STREAK are said to be some of the most bred mt. curs in history; is that good? All I can find are squirrel and coon dogs; would love to see some hog dogs. Anyone used them on cattle? Thanks! :)

All i know about mountian curs is from A C Zoellers from san antonio, they were ok but some barked on track and had short tails, pretty sure he bought them direct from Robert Kemmer himself, Blondie seemed to be the hog dog strain robert liked, they are popular as heck and tons of them out there, they had a big falling out at one time, good place for stotires is to order the leftover mountian cur year books, lots of 10 year old ones left last time i bought some, roberts dogs were tree and bay dogs, before the web he would send tons of color pictures of some Tenn wild russians he caught with the same dog and squirrle hunted in the morning with, ever see this site??

The jukebox line as well as franklins thunder and smith streak  are top bloodlines...but you have good and bad in every breed.
I like them the best for finding hogs...

What is your dog directly out of? A few years ago I was real big into The Omcba and really like the Mtn Curs they are really smart dogs with lots of nose but somewhere along the way they have lost most the grit you normally think of when you Mtn Cur.  You can't have a heavy hand when dealing with s Mtn Cur they are very easy to train and will shut down on ya if your to rough.
Beaty is just a guys name that had these dogs and wouldn't breed any of Carl Smiths dogs in his line because Carls dogs were said to have hound and fiest in them but who knows.

I raised them for a good while and they are hard hunters with a ton of grit. Would not quit a track but it is hard to find a good line of mtn curs for hogs. The right ones have a good nose and lots of hunt.
