Anybody ever hunt around Matagorda and if so how is the hog population?

if you can get permission to hunt between the gulf and intercostal lots of hog usta hunt there a few yrs back hogs got good cutters on them in that area to get the stitch kit ready

Thanks Skunk,a friend of mine just bought some little island in the middle of a marsh that he says is infested with hogs.He tends to lie some so I figured I would ask.

I know a guy who used to hunt them salt grass hogs on islands said there was some sure nuff teeth on em.

in that part of the country, if you have salt grass you have giant rattlers...

if he got a lil island its probly loaded we usta go on matagordia island and hunt alot it is loaded with hogs and big rattle bugs in the summer time just make sure to suit your dogs up the pigs are mean with good cutters

They look like this. ;D We hunted on one of those islands a couple years back... little hogs with big teeth. Thick, thick, thick cane and brush... dogs can get wrecked real easy. I swore that once was enough, but the gentleman that owns one of those islands called me yesterday and invited us to go again. :-\

Once you get away from the marsh, Matagorda County is a pure pleasure to hunt... tons and tons of hogs. We hunted down there for a few years all around Bay City, Markham, Blessing and down around Palacious in Jackson County.

Its a lot of fun if you like snakes, gators and big toofy hogs. We hunt it all the time and hunt the Islands only during winter months.(too many rattlers, bees, gators, in the summer months) But once you get off the coast it is big oaks and pecans. The hogs are getting bigger in size down here and are getting a lot bigger teeth. The last few months we have caught 4 over 250#'s and one of them was close to 300#'s.

Good looking hog, thats the kind of hogs we need more of instead of these black toothless outfits, this hog in the picture is what we used to have on the ranch before the invasion like 10 blacks to 1 lil big toother small bodied outfits, i bet the sows there have teeth showing as well????  Kewl pics for sure!!!!

Very interesting for you to mention toothy sows, I shot several good boars and 11 sows from a boat on Matagorda bay right after high school at an old friends property. Didn't bother retrieving the boars but the sows almost all had at least an inch of ivory. The most impressive sow was one I hit with my CJ-7, 100 pounds tops with 2" tusks.

The sow that Kevin and Sheltons dogs had in fort bend co the other night had both bottoms broke off at around an inch but were way thicker than I would have expected from a sow.

Yea like terry was sayin we have got tons of sows with decent size cutters and really toothy boars over in fort bend county but I would really like to try out them madagorda hog fishing is great I bet the doggin is to

When ever your ready to do it again, just let me know, you can bring your dogs down anytime!!!! We have some good spots(NO DEER HUNTERS) that are holding hogs for some reason. I can't catch a sow to save my life. I have talked to my dogs and asked them for a good sow, but we just keep catching big boars. I have been cut down for a week now but Im ready this weekend.

They say that the Hogs on Matagorda Island have made the rattlesnakes stop rattleing? I know the hogs eat the heck out of them.

i havent hunted over on matagordia island in a few yrs and dont know if they stoped rattleing but they usta sing to ya and some monsters look like pythons

I have worked a few cows in Sargent witch is very close to the island and Im glad my horse can smell them. I ran up on one in a bush and my horse started blowing. Then I seen him. He never rattled.  ???
