Has anyone heard of a hunt for the hunger hunt for 2012?  If so, when would it be held?

First weekend in March and now catch and tie from what I been told.

Its in Halletsville. It has been the largest contest in Texas. If you are not familiar look at the TDHA website.

WOW! that is way down there for us! I'd like to join in, but I don't know that I could get the whole crew together for that.

Hey I tryed to find the dates an time an place of the next hunt so can yall help ? An how many person per team an is it hog tie only?

The TDHA hunt will be the first weekend in March, 4 man teams, catch and tie.

Why is catch & tie?

Which I think is dumb..... Unless they don't have enough people 2 skin.....

Live hog weigh-in is what that means. You catch the hogs live, and tie them. State and federal law prohibits us from donating field dressed hogs to charity.

I like it way better that way we have entered both gut and catch and tie I like live better. I think it will be more entertaining to the people watching also just to see them on the hoof.

I been hunting 4 28 yrs and I can  count on one hand how many times  I've tied a hog..... My dogs will probably  break snouts and some hogs will probably die n trailer from them dogs. It will b a cluster f%&k with a live hog live n a trailer or n a truck knowing my dogs know that hog is still alive...WOW

Thats where HANDLE comes into play.   ;)

I prefer to kill the hogs but catch n tie is probably easier on the host, better for spectators and more profitable.

I bet they will not allow damaged hogs and dead hogs brought through weigh ins. 

Love that this contest is finally catch n tie!!! We're trying to line up the properties now, much harder competition in my opinion. It takes a lot of work getting those hogs out of bad places alive..

Twice last year we had to drag hogs over half mile through swamp at times!

usually as long as the hog can walk across the scale they will count them

I like the idea. That's the only way we hunt anyhow.

I have a good handle on my dogs..... All they know is find hog and kill hog!

bray I was not running down the style. We catch and tie even in the knife hunts. If I have a dog eat a hog up where I'm from he will get his rear whipped or culled. Thats us and the way hunt. I respect the way you hunt and glad to hunt the competition either way.

 Bray, this is just my .02. If you don't like the rules don't join the hunt. The rules are there because of state and federal laws, not because someone just wants it that way.

I know there was just a thread on transporting hogs from county 2 county on here... Live wild hogs.... I skip that thread cause it don't pertain 2 me..... Hmmm let me check it out when I'm @ lunch or after wk....

There is no such law on the books. All transpotation of live feral hogs is regulated by the TAHC.

There is a contest in  pearsal. tx  that same weekend pays around 3,000 muranos muerta.  catch and stab I lost the best strike dog i ever raised tying a big boar up by myself, i swore that night threw my tears that i would never tye another hog nore would any body with me on one of my ranches.

 You can also transport them to a lic hunting ranch.
Bump, why you argueing? I agree with you though. GW gives two sh its about transporting hogs.

*Most people that work the hogs catch n tie! Lots of people are in it just for the removal and killing is quicker, personally we like removing the boys and a few inches of tail and send em packing

*I thinks it's tougher! Lot harder to flip and get all 4 legs tied on big boy for some people

*their dogs DONT roll out so they kill the hog, if not they'd be fighting dogs the whole time

*it is alot more work to tie one a half mile and then drag him out, those contests are alot of work especially if you have any hopes of having a good showing. You better get ready to be a hand, those contest days are the most tired/sore/long days we have all year

I like the idea of a catch and tie, thats how we do it mostly up here.  Im not sure if I am going to make it this year, but I sure hope I can get something together and get set up somewhere that I dont have to drive from one ranch to another.  Good luck to those who go, and hopefully we will see ya down there, if you're not, you will be missing out.

It's supposed to be about the TDHA hunt for the hungry, not a pissing match between some guys that can't stop arguing.

Critter Catcher, I would suggest that you take the same advice you gave junior, and step away. Mike already mentioned to drop it. I suspect he meant was he said. ;)

Is this hunt always held down south? It would be nice to get in a tourny up here somewhere...

   The hunt, to my knowledge has always been in either Schulenburg or Hallettsville, and maybe once in Columbus early on.  I know a couple years ago, there was discussion about moving it to a more central location. Not sure if that's still in the cards or not.


    In the spring, you will find several Hog Dogging contests.  Cuero, Pearsall, Hallettsville, and Buffalo/Fairfield seem to be the four largest.

i was lookin at the new bayed solid and i think it said they are going to put on one around waco in 2012 . same as  that hog huntin varmit thing they do in alabama  .
