Title: Best riders(horse) you ever seen... those you admire... Post by: Noah on December 21, 2011, 10:27:20 pm My number 1 was a guy named Bart Corrington... son of Mike Corrington, a true horseman out of Oklahoma whom I also had the pleasure to spend some time with...
..I was working for hall of fame reigning trainer Bob Anthony at the time, Bart's mom had divorced Mike and married Bob(trainer's wife lol)... Bart was his workhorse trainer on the ranch, having been raised in it however... he did not enjoy it... ... well I came on the scene and old Bart could have cared less... he was over it lol... I got to ride some sho enuff horses at that time, horses worth more than most people's houses... quality of horse flesh was not an issue there haha... ... WELL, this Bart "kid"(I was probably 20 at the time, he was around 30) couldn't help but know how to train having grown up where he did and Bob finally talked him into showing a colt that Bart had been workin' on... ... I remember that run like it was yesterday.... he came through the gate throwing dirt at a dead gallop, melted that colt into the ground, and spun around so fast the judges disqualified him because they couldn't tell how many rotations he made in his spin it was that fast... ... we all had seen some fine runs, but I've never seen one better since... I don't know if he ever showed after that, he just didn't care for it... ..... Gotta say I sure enjoy watching NRCHA Teddy Robinson ride too... little ba$tard knows how to make it look easy for dang sure... Title: Re: Best riders(horse) you ever seen... those you admire... Post by: Circle C on December 21, 2011, 10:44:47 pm I don't know the riders name, but if you search for Merlin, I would have to say that is the most impressive horsemanship I have seen.
Outside of the show ring I'd have to say Jesse Earl from Buffalo. You won't ever see him in the show arena, but you will see plenty of horses he's started for Tag Rice, Ronnie Rice, the Dorman's, Billy Bob Moore, Brenda Garner, etc. Lots of high bred, high dollar two year olds got their start in the woods hog hunting and day working with Jesse Earl, only to end up at some cutting event. He never looked like he was doing anything, and he always got a better run out of a horse than the horse was really capable of. Title: Re: Best riders(horse) you ever seen... those you admire... Yeah I got to watch Bill ride quite a bit, unfortunately, he'd quit drinking by the time I got to hang out with him lol... the story of him goin' into the OK city arena tore up doin' doughnuts in his dually is one of my all time favorites ;D ... You're right though, never looked like he was doin' anything... but I think his best horses were before my time Title: Re: Best riders(horse) you ever seen... those you admire... Post by: bigo on December 22, 2011, 07:27:01 am In the 60's there was a horse named Sugar Vaquero that won the world in cutting. He was the quickest, most powerfull moving hores I ever saw. Bobby Sykes was his usuall rider and looked like he took a beating everytime he showed him. I've seen that old hores stop and Bobby's hat keep going then get up 20 feet the other way so quick it made you wonder how he did it. He wasn't the best cutting horse I ever saw but he was the most athletic.
