I was reading the post "Text only". Some of the members brought up what I thank would be a great idea. All ads in the "DOG TRADER" should have a photo of the dog for sale. This would help keep a dog thief from trying to sale a stolen dog. What do ya'll think good idea or not???

I like it, something else I would like to see on there and the classifieds, is where the seller is located. Some people do this but most dont. I guess you could look up their phone number and figure out where they live but it would be a lot easier if they would say for example " located in Benton La just out side of Bossier City". Or x amount of minutes or miles " North of Dallas"  I think that would save the seller a little time and head ache also, answering calls and folks saying where are you located, oh never mind thats to far. Just my .02

Also, the seller needs to review a document and sign it. A document that describes what a hog dog is and that it meets the minimum requirement...

A good rule of thumb...if you wouldn't feed it then don't sell it...don't try to sell a cull because you are trying to get your money back...suck it up and don't contribute to the problem...just my 2 cents...

There are 9 people that have posted before me on this thread.... Which one of y'all is going to moderate the dog trade and make sure everybody follows the rules.   You will get to upload their pics because they can't figure it out, you get to have hate email and voicemail when their post gets deleted, because they didn't read the rules for the 12th time.  You also get to deal with the drama involving a crooked seller....


Oh, forgot to mention, you don't get paid either.

IMO, there are way too many styles of HOG DOGS for something like that... What i would consider a HOG DOG, you may consider a cull depending on where and how you hunt...

I put my city and area in all of my post, and you still get texts or calls asking where you are located...  rolleyes

If i walk hunt im not going to go out and buy a hood dog.... It might be the best rig dog in the country but if he wont leave my feet on the ground he almost worthless...  

You definitely cant say its a hog dog because it will " bay a hog " ... A Catahoula will bay a hog all day in a pen, but they sure aint no hog dogs!!!!!   >:D  ;D  :P

the number looking may not always work. if you look my number up, it say lufkin, tx., but i live in central tx. not everybody has a number for the area they live in, so a location would be nice.
chris you have a point about all the head ache of being a moderator. i had a post deleted by a moderator for not putting my number in the post, but in the posting i put i was in afghanistan so email was the only contact and then i could call the other person. i used common sence and didnt put my international number, because i would not want that int phone bill. i reposted it and put number and forewarned that it would be their dime on the phone call. it is a head ache making sure every1 follows the rules and or reads the rules.
if i was gonna be stateside more, i would take on the tasking, but i think i will let someelse do it. ;D

Charles, It might have been me that deleted it.  Every once in a while, I browse through the dog trade/ classified and if I don't see a number and email, I just hit the delete button.   

A picture ain't gonna prove nothing other than the dog has 4 legs, 2 ears and a poop chute.

I've got two dogs right now that I could post pictures of and most would guess the wrong one to make an offer on. Don't be swayed by a pretty picture, you buy the man not the dog, you'll seldom go wrong.

I agree with that & partially disagree with that. I don't care if it's the best strike dog in the world, if it's ugly I'm not gonna feed it ;)

no biggy chris. i just reposted and put the int number. its not my dime to call me, its who ever doesnt relise its a little longer than most numbers and they will see on there phone bill at the end of the month.

it don't make no differance with or without a picture . pictures do sell better . i don't know how many times i've had dogs for sale and everybody that called would ask [what do they look like ? ]  and all i would tell them is they look like friggin hog dogs  rolleyes . and i don't put much store in a man thats more concerned with looks than ability thats what ruint most huntin breeds , breeding for looks and color and not the hunt . the catahoulas took a big hit because of people prefering them damn glass eyes . and so on and so on .

the pics dont make a dog sell, but i know i would like to see what the dog or item looks like before i buy. do you buy stuff site unseen? some people like to see what something looks like to see if they want it or not.

X2...good example is the mtn cur...some look like feist and others look like hounds...They do say a pic is worth a thousand words...

I guess some people missed the reason the first post on why he said it would be a good idea to post a picture, it was aimed at dog thieves trying to sell a stolen dog, he never mentioned about trying to sell a dog because of its looks.

i understand what you are saying just answering some differant post in here . and NO it wont stop a dog thief because they are the lowest form of thief. there are too many other options to sell stolen merchandise and dogs flea mkts, craigs list and many more .your best option to stop a thief is freeze branding and tattoes or micro chipping . and if i might add all that hasn't stopped them yet . it ain't nearly as bad now as it was years ago when furs was still worth something back before the www. it's like the pawn shops a thief doesn't use a pawn shop to get rid of stolen merchandise after managing one for 10 years i can tell you that for sure . and no dog thief will post a dog for sale on the same board as a missing or stolen dog is listed . think about it most thiefs ain't stupid there just low bred . and from experiance when a dog is stolen it is by somebody that knows you or your dogs and they ain't about to try and get rid of it in the same circle or on the same site you frequent .

I think every "for sale" ad should have a picture, truck, horse/hog/dog trailer or box, gun, tracking system, etc.
After all, I see an interesting ad, 1st thing I do is text asking for pics.
Would also help reduce the "tire kickers".

ok the point is the try and deter dog theives from selling the stolen dogs. if the dog was stolen, and then since the moderators agreed to make pics mandatory, then the chances of finding the stolen dog is slim to none. they can just post on another site and dump the dog then. its a good, but bad idea at the same time. it has its pros and cons.

Maybe would be a good idea if you have a dog stolen post pics of it on here.

if i still had a computer i would love this idea but now just get on with my phone which isnt a smart phone and there isnt a way to upload. But i am always willin to text pics. Now if i had a phone that would upload then i would love for this to be put in place

I have to agree with the other part until the statement was made a Catahoula isnt a hog dog,
come visit me in east texas ill put u on sum hogs with one catahoula no help dogs, and she will find bay and catch her own hog time and time again!

Be better off to have the dog seller post a pic of himself. Kinda like a mug shot.

I think you'll sale your dogs or pups faster with a picture. Plus it should cut down on the phone calls and texts. You should just get the guys that are truly just interested in what you have instead of just going by what you post in a text. Pictures say a 1000 words....

hahahaha thats the best one yet .  you will stand more of a chance finding your lost or stolen dog by just posting a picture of it all over the www. than makeing dogs for sale a picture only option .won't stop a thief , but like said before will just push the dog deeper underground .  and i don't know what most of ya'll are worried so much about  any dog thief worth his salt will only steal a GOOD DOG so most of you,uns is safe. ;D

I stole these two dogs awhile back and have been worried about how to peddle them. Their performance isn't that great but since  pics should be mandatory I am confident they will sell on looks alone.

Price is firm at $ 1000 each no trial. They are both full blood littermate catahoula's.  ;D

Photo not too important right away , if u are interested enough get in contact and ask for a pic . I would however like to see location as one of the MUST have items ,but there again something else for the MODS to keep up with !

I like to see pictures too. I got another question, why cant we make a comment or (reply) on the classified section. Am I doing something wrong or is just like that. I think you could ask a little more about the dogs and you could hear from others that may have info on the dogs or it's background.  ???

Reason for no comments has to do with all the BS that was being talked about people and dogs on the classified posts. In typical fashion a handful ruined it for everyone. Rather than spending all day babysitting the boards, we just locked them down.

I do it for a couple friends that cant figure it out and dont get paid,,, we maybe do beer supper and hunting  and a place to rack out
