Title: Line breeding question
Post by: Browning on January 05, 2008, 06:01:43 pm
I have been breeding dogs for 20  years now and have never line bred. I was wondering how close is to close. I have a male and female that are half sibling's out of my old hank dog.  Both dogs hunt good and have alot of grit. I have had thoughts about breeding them but I am not sure if this would be to tight. What do you think.

From what i've heard, that should make a good cross.

I heard that direct siblings and mother/father x daughter/son would be too tight.

Jamie, those bulldogs folks have cornered the market on linebreeding/inbreeding. They would consider your plan a loose linebreeding LOL. As long as it's good stock, it shouldn't be a problem. I know some fellas that have dogs off a belly brother x sister breeding, 54% COI...no problems with the litter.

If you make that cross, put me down for a male pup.

It will be a month or so before she comes in, but I believe I am going to try this cross. I will let you guys know when I do. I am going to keep 2 or 3 of these pups and give the rest of them to hunters that will work them.

James,
I see no problem in it.
I still have the factory so I have bred any yet but if something happen to the factory I would do it.
Good Luck.

that should be a good cross. you are taking your best dog and having pups that are half of your best dog.  if you want to see the blood jump. your next breeding you take it to dogs that are exactly what you want hunting wise and are off of one of the two existing lines that are not hank. you should see some sure enough dogs out of that....

triple bred would be if hank were still here....you bred one of those pups back to hank...that way if you looked at the ped...it shows hank three times in a line...1st generation, 2nd generation and 3rd....if you did something like that you would definately need to outcross your next time through...that type of breeding has made many a great dog in the pit bull world...
