Title: Hog got me Post by: jml on March 22, 2009, 07:22:05 pm Circle C brought me about a 200-225# boar with 2-3 cutters he got out of a trap last weekend. I put him in my pen and gave him a week to calm down. A couple friends came over today and brought some young dogs to work in the pen, they wernt doing much so I got an olde dog from my kennel and put her in and that ole boar was workin her over good, I went in to get her out and I got worked over pretty good and pretty fast it seemed like it was over befor it started that big ole boar knocked me off my feet and got on top my legs and cut my leg pretty good I did my best to kick him off for a while till pepper grabbed him on the leg and I was able to make my gettaway. It was all pretty funny, I guess I was lucky. I learned a lesson today, dont under estimate the power of a hog.

Title: Re: Hog got me Post by: Circle C on March 22, 2009, 07:58:03 pm JML,
Just wait until tomorrow evening when I drop of the other two that were caught this weekend. What they lack in size, they make up for in fight. I don't know that I have ever seen a boar so pissed at the world as the one from Saturday night. Mandi thinks she needs some practice suturing and wants to know if she can come over ;D Title: Re: Hog got me Post by: dabutcher on March 22, 2009, 10:34:36 pm Circle C brought me about a 200-225# boar with 2-3 cutters he got out of a trap last weekend. Cheers M i used that betadine (cheap wal-mart version) a couple times a day on my cut and it worked well. i washed it with anti-bacterial soap, then patted it dry and then applied the betadine. it's gonna take a while to heal though. seemed like mine healed slower than any other wound i've ever had. That right there is automatic trip to see the sawbones popo popo I don't like docs either but when it comes to what hogs eat and what can build up on they're tusks there are some bacteria even the more through cleaning ain't going to stop. Go see the doc and get some hi-power stuff to nip it in the bud Title: Re: Hog got me Post by: got2catchem on March 26, 2009, 09:03:01 am Tomorow when I unwrap the gause and clean out the cut I will take a picture and post it, thinking about going to see the doctor its looking worse. Chris and I might have to hold you down and let Mandi practice carving on you. :o

We all know to use a bump board. Any time we go in a pen with a bigger hog we should carry a bump board with us or simply keep one in the pen. We cannot help a pup in training if we are in a bind ourselves. For those that may not know what I am refering to, it is a piece of plywood about 3 feet wide and 3 feet tall with a handle or two made on it (rope handle or cut handle into the plywood). The bump board is used as a deflection shield to keep the hog off of you, it works great. When a hog charges just plant the bump board's base in the ground and angle it to one side or the other and hold your ground. Good Luck and did I mention go see the DR.!!!!!
